About the role

This is a rare chance to design an education program from the ground up. WAMA is seeking a passionate, creative, and community‑minded Education Officer to develop, deliver, and grow a suite of programs that inspire curiosity, creativity, and environmental stewardship. You will shape WAMA's identity as a go‑to destination for school excursions, outdoor learning, arts‑based education, and nature‑connected experiences.

You will work across all age groups, from playgroup to university, and help build strong partnerships with schools, camps, community organisations, and families.

Key responsibilities

- Design and deliver engaging education programs across early childhood, primary and secondary school excursions, VCE and senior school art/environmental programs, university field trips and research partnerships, and community workshops and public programs
- Develop new school holiday programs such as WAMA Rangers and creative nature‑based activities
- Create curriculum‑aligned learning materials, teacher resources, and activity guides
- Support the development of WAMA's planned Stephanie Alexander Kitchen, including undertaking initial liaison and relationship-building with the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation and relevant education partners
- Build strong relationships with schools, school camps, outdoor education providers, and community groups
- Promote WAMA as a regular excursion destination
- Help develop long‑term education strategies for WAMA
- Help identify opportunities for disadvantaged youth programs, First Nations learning partnerships,



environmental stewardship initiatives, art‑in‑nature collaborations, and citizen science activities
- Maintain safety standards and risk assessments for all programs, manage volunteer educators and support staff where required, and contribute to grant applications, reporting, and program documentation

About you

- Experience in either education, outdoor learning, environmental science, arts education, or related fields
- Confidence working with children, teens, adults, and diverse communities
- Strong communication skills and a warm, welcoming manner
- Creativity, initiative, and the ability to build programs from scratch
- A passion for nature, conservation, and hands‑on learning
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small, dynamic team
- Desirable: Experience in outdoor education or bush kinder
- Desirable: Knowledge of Victorian curriculum and excursion planning requirements
- Desirable: Experience working with disadvantaged or at‑risk youth
- Desirable: First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
