Our client is an established and growing Australian health technology company building secure digital solutions used across the healthcare sector.

The business works with healthcare organisations and professional stakeholders to make the distribution and access of clinical information more secure, efficient and accessible.

With a strong existing product and an expanding roadmap, the company is now looking for an Engineering Lead to take ownership of a small, talented engineering team and help shape the next stage of its technical growth.

About the role

This is a genuine chance to step into formal engineering leadership while remaining technically hands on.

You'll lead a small engineering team, working closely with the CEO, Product and senior technical stakeholders. You'll be responsible for developing the people around you while also helping the business balance the reliability and security of its existing platform with the development of new products and capabilities.

A major focus of the role will be responsible adoption of AI across engineering, including AI assisted development, establishing appropriate review practices and helping the team understand where AI can accelerate delivery and where human oversight remains critical.

What you'll be doing

- Lead and develop a small engineering team through regular 1:1s, feedback, coaching and performance conversations
- Support career development and professional growth across the team
- Maintain the stability, security and reliability of the existing platform
- Help validate, prototype and deliver new product initiatives
- Drive practical adoption of AI assisted software development
- Establish sensible practices around reviewing and validating AI generated code
- Champion secure software development practices
- Ensure technically and commercially sensitive changes receive appropriate review
- Work closely with Product and the wider business on technical priorities
- Contribute hands on where required and provide technical leadership across the team




- Help evolve engineering practices as the company continues to scale

What we're looking for

Technical

- Strong commercial experience with .NET / .NET Core and SQL Server
- Strong backend development experience
- Experience with Azure DevOps and CI/CD
- Familiarity with a modern frontend framework such as React or Angular
- Robust understanding of software security and engineering best practice
- Genuine experience using AI assisted development tools in a professional environment

Leadership:
- Previous experience directly managing engineers is essential
- Experience with 1:1s, performance management and professional development
- Strong mentoring and coaching capability
- Comfortable balancing technical delivery with people leadership
- Clear communicator who can work effectively across engineering, product and business teams
- Sound judgement around technical risk

Desirable:
- Experience developing mobile applications
- Experience with APIs and scalable web applications
- Exposure to healthcare technology or another regulated environment
- Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards
- Understanding of Secure SDLC, OWASP and web security
- Experience introducing new engineering tools, practices or ways of working
- Experience in a smaller or scaling technology business
