Primary objective To provide epidemiological analysis of population health data to support policy and practice decisions in the NT. This position will work on development and implementation of the population health survey. This position will also provide support to the analysis for the Market

Basket survey – a report that collates remote stores pricing and compares it to a standard basket of food purchasable from urban NT stores to assess the accessibility and affordability of food. The position will support injury reporting, where required.

Key duties and responsibilities

1.



Use relevant software tools such as Stata or R to undertake analysis and interpretation of large-scale population datasets.
2. Prepare briefing papers, reports, fact sheets, visualisations and data dashboards to disseminate NT health statistics.
3. Respond to health statistics data requests in collaboration with senior epidemiology staff.
4. Research background information and prepare literature reviews on projects focussing on health and social determinants.
5. Prepare and present complex epidemiological concepts and information clearly and precisely to a wide variety of audiences ranging

from health professionals to community members.
1. Advise relevant areas on data collection and initiate action to determine, maintain and improve data quality.
2. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria Essential

1. A degree in epidemiology, health sciences, public health, or associated field with relevant experience.
2. Applied knowledge of epidemiological methods, including the use of large population health datasets and the ability to identify,

appraise and synthesise relevant health literature.

Demonstrated experience analysing population health data using statistical software (e.g. STATA or R) and spreadsheet applications

(e.g. Excel) to investigate health outcomes, disease risk factors and social determinants of health.
1. Demonstrated project management and organisational skills including work planning, monitoring, reporting, stakeholder

engagement and delivery of complex tasks in tight timeframes.
1. High-level written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports, present findings, and collaborate effectively

with colleagues, stakeholders and management.
1. Ability to translate complex epidemiological and statistical information into clear, concise and accessible messages for a range of

audiences.
1. Demonstrated understanding of factors affecting population health and wellbeing in the NT, including health inequities and the social

determinants of health.

Desirable

1. Postgraduate qualification/s at Masters level or higher in epidemiology or related field.
2. Experience in design of survey methodology.
3. Experience working in injury surveillance, chronic conditions epidemiology or other related population health areas.
