The Role

We're looking for an experienced Estimator to join our Gold Coast team (with formal reporting through to the Bids & Estimating team) and play a key role in how we win and shape work. You'll be responsible for preparing accurate, competitive estimates and tender submissions, from early-stage feasibility through to detailed pricing. You'll work closely with our centralised Bids & Estimating team, Regional Managers, Project Managers and trusted subcontractor network to make sure every bid is realistic, well-considered and set up for successful delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Lead allocated tenders under the technical direction of the Appointed Estimating Manager, with particular focus on larger, higher value and more complex projects, undertaking the full scope of the Estimator role from initial document review through to submission, post tender activities and handover.

- Review tender documentation to develop a thorough understanding of the project scope, client requirements, design, procurement requirements and key commercial and delivery risks.

- Prepare accurate, competitive and commercially sound estimates, including quantity take offs, trade pricing, subcontractor and supplier quotations, preliminaries, allowances, provisional sums and contingencies, and develop the budget position jointly with the Regional Manager.

- Provide peer support to Estimators on complex tenders, assisting to resolve pricing issues, scope gaps and technical queries raised during the estimating period and contributing to the accuracy of the overall budget position.





- Identify and develop value management opportunities, alternative construction solutions and procurement strategies with Estimators, while maintaining project quality and compliance.

- Lead the development of the Department's in-house construction programming capability, including preparing and reviewing tender-issue construction programs and overseeing outsourced programming services where used.

- Work collaboratively with Regional Managers, project delivery personnel and external consultants to develop the tender strategy, construction methodology, program, site logistics and preliminaries.

- Train and mentor Junior Estimators and Estimating Support Officers, sharing estimating practices, lessons learnt and technical knowledge to build capability across the Estimating Team.

- Supervise, review and check the work of Junior Estimators, and direct the work of Estimating Support Officers, on allocated tenders, ensuring all Junior Estimator work is checked prior to the Final Tender Review and lodgement.

- Contribute to tender start up, internal review and Final Tender Review processes, clearly presenting the estimate, key assumptions, risks, opportunities and commercial position for peer review by the Appointed Estimating Manager and approval.

- Prepare and review tender submissions, including pricing schedules, qualifications, clarifications, exclusions, programs and methodologies, ensuring consistency between the estimate and Bryant's submitted offer.

- Apply lessons learnt from tender outcomes and Post-Project Reviews to estimating practices, and contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating procedures and templates.

- For successful tenders, lead a structured handover to the project delivery team, clearly communicating the basis of the estimate, assumptions, qualifications, risks, opportunities and tender commitments.

About You

- 10 years experience in a similar role.

- Diverse estimating background across a broad range of commercial construction sectors, project types and procurement models.

- Relevant tertiary qualification in Project/ Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Building, Engineering or a related discipline (preferred).

- Proficient in estimating and take off software such as Cubit or equivalent, together with Microsoft Office applications and EstimateOne.

- Experience in early-stage budgeting capability, including the ability to develop reliable budgets from concept drawings, preliminary documentation and incomplete design information.

- Ability to build and clearly explain the theory behind an early budget — quantities, rates, construction methodology, preliminaries, escalation, risk allowances, design assumptions and exclusions.

- Proven Design & Construct experience, particularly working through incomplete or evolving documentation and identifying design, coordination and commercial risks before they become construction issues.

- Experience with ECI/D&C;, negotiated and relationship-based procurement, with the ability to progressively develop a project.

- Strong construction methodology knowledge and the ability to consider access, logistics, staging, temporary works, cranage, buildability and sequencing when developing a price.

- Programming capability, including the ability to develop preliminary construction programs and understand the relationship between methodology, program, preliminaries and overall project cost.

- Strong value management capability, with the ability to identify practical alternatives that maintain the client's required outcome while improving cost, buildability, program or risk.

- Ability to identify design gaps and scope risk early and engage with consultants to obtain the information required to progressively firm up the construction price.
