About the Role

SHER is a culturally tailored, specialised domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV) behaviour change intervention program for men from migrant and refugee backgrounds who are committed to addressing their use of violence. The program is based in Logan and supports men residing in Logan, Brisbane, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and the Gold Coast.

Facilitator – Men’s Behaviour Change is responsible for providing facilitation of group sessions and individual sessions as required with participants in the Safe, Healthy and Empowered Relationships (SHER) program. The role completes pre-group interviews, intake sessions, individual and group work, and other related activities in line with the program manual.

SHER is a culturally tailored specialised domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV) behaviour change intervention program for men from migrant and refugee backgrounds who are committed to addressing their use of violence. The program is based in Logan and supports men residing in Logan, Brisbane, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and Gold Coast.

The Facilitator works closely with the Coordinator and the Women’s Safety Practitioner (co-located with 99 Steps – SSI’s specialist DFV service) to ensure that service delivery maintains a clear focus on accountability for the use of violence, prioritisation of women’s and children’s safety, has a gendered understanding of DFSV and is culturally responsive.

The Facilitator actively engages with local communities on a regular basis to ensure there is ongoing community awareness and support.

Key Responsibilities

Service Delivery

- Review and triage referrals into the program.
- Conduct intake and assessment interviews to assess risk, readiness, and suitability for participation in the program.
- Co-facilitate group sessions and individual sessions as required in line with the program manual.
- Contribute to ongoing risk assessment, participant engagement, and case documentation.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case notes, feedback and reflections in accordance with organisational guidelines after each session.
- Work collaboratively with the Women’s Safety Practitioner and partner services through to prioritise victim-survivor safety.
- Undertake ongoing community engagement to support the objectives of the program.
- Maintain a high quality of professionalism exercising a culturally responsive, non-judgmental, non-biased and non-collusive approach.

Compliance and Quality Management:




- Ensure incident management processes are followed in line with organisational policy and procedure.
- Ensure adherence to organisational policies and procedures, to deliver consistent quality and safe services.
- Participate in supervision, reflective practice, and program evaluation activities.

About You You are an experienced, values-driven practitioner with knowledge of men’s behaviour change and domestic and family violence interventions. You bring confident group facilitation, risk assessment, and stakeholder and community engagement skills. Culturally responsive and cooperative, you are committed to holding people who use violence accountable while prioritising the safety of women and children.

Essential Criteria

- Completion, or commitment to complete, a minimum of 32 hours of observing intervention group work with people using violence within first 6 months of employment.
- Completion, or commitment to complete, a minimum of 25 hours of specialist group perpetrator intervention training.
- Demonstrated ability to work with relevant services in a case coordination model.
- Knowledge of or ability to rapidly acquire technical understanding of relevant legislation and regulations, including the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012 and Section 5a Information Sharing, the Child Protection Act 1999, and the Family Law Act 1975.
- Demonstrated knowledge of culturally responsive practice when working with people from migrant and refugee backgrounds.
- A working knowledge of the Duluth Model and the dynamics of domestic violence, particularly relating to the behaviour of people using violence and the behaviour change process.
- Flexibility to work outside standard business hours, including at least one afternoon shift per week.
- Desirable: Bilingual and/or bicultural background.
