Ngiyani Wandabaa (we all Spirit) is seeking a motivated and culturally grounded Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Project Officer. Working directly with the Project Manager, this position will support the implementation and day-to-day delivery of the We Need to Know Before You Go project.

Funded through the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing's Palliative Care Grants Program, this role will contribute to a nationally significant initiative aimed at strengthening First Nations palliative care, advance care planning, death literacy and planning ahead for Sad News and Sorry Business.

This is an identified role under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), it is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.

Key responsibilities

- Build and maintain respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, Elders, stakeholders and partner organisations.
- Plan, organise and deliver community education sessions, workshops, meetings and consultation activities.
- Assist in the development of educational resources, communication materials and project tools.
- Maintain accurate project records, documentation, databases and administrative systems.
- Prepare project reports, newsletters, presentations and other project communications.
- Support stakeholder communications, promotional activities and digital engagement initiatives.
- Collect, manage and analyse project data to support monitoring, reporting and project outcomes.
- Contribute to evaluation, quality improvement and continuous learning activities across the project.





Identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person with demonstrated lived experience, connection to, and understanding of First Nations communities and cultures.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a small team with a positive attitude and flexibility.

Demonstrated ability to build and maintain respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, Elders, stakeholders and partner organisations.

Experience facilitating First Nations projects, programs and community engagement initiatives, consultation, co-design and participatory processes.

Experience facilitating and delivering workshops, yarning circles, community education and/or consultation sessions.

Highly developed communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.

Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and meet project deadlines.

Willingness and ability to undertake interstate travel, including travel to regional, rural and remote communities, with occasional overnight stays.

Understanding of, or passion for, First Nations death literacy, palliative and end-of-life care, advance care planning, Sad News, Sorry Business, grief, loss and healing.

Experience working within the Aboriginal Community Controlled, health, aged care, palliative care, disability, community services or not-for-profit sectors.

Experience in resource development, project reporting, data collection or evaluation activities.

Qualification in health promotion, community development, project management or related disciplines.
