Gardens Medical Group is continuing to grow, and we are seeking motivated and compassionate Assistants in Nursing (AINs) to join our nursing team.

This opportunity is particularly suited to nursing students who have completed at least their first year of study and are looking to gain meaningful, hands‑on clinical experience while completing their nursing qualification.

Working alongside experienced Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, General Practitioners and Allied Health Professionals, you will gain exposure to a busy general practice environment and develop practical skills that complement your nursing education and future career.

For nursing students, we understand the demands of balancing university or TAFE, clinical placements, employment and personal commitments. We aim to provide flexible casual employment that allows you to continue your studies while gaining valuable experience in a clinical setting.

About the Role

As an Assistant in Nursing at Gardens Medical Group, you will work as part of our multidisciplinary clinical team, providing patient care and clinical support under the direction and supervision of our nursing team.

AINs at Gardens Medical Group work within a clearly defined scope of practice. Duties are allocated according to your qualifications, training, demonstrated competency and individual scope of practice.

All new AINs undertake orientation, clinical training and competency assessment before performing clinical tasks independently within their approved scope.

This role provides an opportunity to develop confidence in a clinical setting, strengthen your patient communication skills and gain practical experience across a broad range of primary healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on your training,



competency and approved scope of practice, duties may include:

- Performing patient observations, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, weight and other basic clinical measurements
- Performing ECGs and assisting nurses with procedures
- Performing blood glucose testing and urinalysis
- Assisting with spirometry testing
- Performing simple wound care and dressings within the approved AIN scope of practice
- Setting up and removing Holter monitors and 24-hour blood pressure monitors
- Assisting with pre-employment medical assessments
- Preparing patients and clinical areas for procedures
- Assisting nursing staff and GPs with treatment room activities
- Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Cleaning and preparing clinical equipment and treatment areas
- Restocking treatment rooms and monitoring clinical consumables
- Supporting infection prevention and control procedures
- Providing appropriate patient assistance and escalating clinical concerns to an RN or GP
- Undertaking other duties appropriate to the AIN role, demonstrated competency and scope of practice

About You

We are looking for applicants who are professional, reliable and genuinely interested in developing their clinical skills and experience.

You will need to be comfortable working in a busy and fast-paced general practice environment, communicate effectively with patients and colleagues, and understand the importance of recognising your limitations and seeking assistance when required.





You should be willing to learn, receive feedback and work under the direction and supervision of experienced nursing staff.

To be considered you should:

- Be currently enrolled in an approved nursing qualification through a university or TAFE and have completed at least your first year of study
- Hold a valid Working With Children Check
- Hold current First Aid and CPR certification
- Hold current Professional Indemnity Insurance, or be willing to obtain it
- Demonstrate professional communication and interpersonal skills
- Be reliable, organised and able to work effectively within a team
- Have a patient-focused approach to healthcare
- Be willing to undertake training and competency assessment
- Be comfortable using computer systems and learning clinical software
