About the Role

Our client is seeking a vigilant and dedicated Mine Safety Officer to ensure the highest standards of health and safety are maintained at their operations in Queenstown, Eastern Cape. This role is paramount in promoting a proactive safety culture, conducting risk assessments, implementing safety protocols, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation. You will work closely with management and employees across all departments to identify hazards, provide safety training, and investigate incidents. This is a critical position for an individual committed to safeguarding the well-being of all personnel within the mining environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures across the mine site.
n
- Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.

- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
n
- Develop and deliver safety training programs to all employees and contractors.
n




- Ensure compliance with all applicable mining health and safety regulations and legal requirements.
n
- Maintain safety records, statistics, and documentation, and advise management on safety performance.

Requirements

n

n
- National Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
n
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Safety Officer, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.
n
- Knowledge of relevant South African mining legislation and safety standards (e.g., Mine Health and Safety Act).
n
- Strong understanding of risk assessment techniques and incident investigation methodologies.
n
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and training skills.
n
- First Aid certification and ability to respond effectively to emergencies.
