Are you an early-career communications qualified looking to build broad experience across media, strategic communications, social media and marketing?
The Super Members Council is seeking a Communications Adviser to join our Advocacy division in Melbourne. Working as part of SMC's integrated communications function, you will help deliver clear, engaging and timely communications that support our advocacy priorities and help protect and build the reputation of SMC and profit-to-member superannuation funds.
This is a great opportunity for someone with a background in journalism, public relations, marketing or social media who is looking to develop their skills across a broad communications portfolio.

The Super Members Council (SMC) is the collective voice for more than 12 million Australians who have over $1.6 trillion in retirement savings managed by profit-to-member superannuation funds. Our purpose is to protect and advance the interests of super fund members, advocating on their behalf to ensure superannuation policy is reliable, effective, and equitable. We produce rigorous research and analysis and work with Parliamentarians and policy makers across the full breadth of Parliament.
About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Strategic Communications, the Communications Adviser will work across SMC’s media and strategic communications functions.
You will support the development and delivery of communications strategies and content, working closely with the Head of Strategic Communications, Media Adviser and Social Media and Marketing Manager to deliver day-to-day communications activity.
The role is well suited to an early-career communications professional with some experience or demonstrated interest in journalism, public relations,
marketing or social media who is looking to build broad experience within an integrated communications function.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of SMC's communications and media activities.
- Create and edit content for media, digital, social media and marketing channels.
- Monitor media coverage and identify emerging issues and opportunities.
- Assist with media enquiries, stakeholder engagement and broader communications activities.
- Collaborate with teams across SMC to support advocacy and engagement objectives.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- A qualification in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Some experience or a demonstrated interest in communications, media, public relations, marketing or social media.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create engaging content for different audiences and digital channels.
- Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- A collaborative approach, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- An interest and understanding of the political and economic landscape.
