Financial Controller

Sydney, Australia - Hybrid working mode

As an integral leader of a high performing local finance team, assuming responsibility for regulatory reporting (APRA, ASIC etc), Statutory Accounting, Corporate & Premium Tax obligations (with the support of external tax advisors) & assisting the CFO with management of local Reinsurance arrangements

What you'll be DOING

What will your essential responsibilities include?

- APRA regulatory submissions, ICAAP Reporting, Regulatory engagement and technical leadership of implementing new APRA standards. Maintain compliance calendar.
- Monitor the Australian Branch's statutory profitability including challenging product lines performance; produce relevant underwriting results and packs for the Senior Officer Outside Australia.
- Oversee the on-time submission of relevant tax returns and submissions (with support of external tax advisors), including Corporate Tax, Country by Country Reporting, Withholding Tax Returns, PTRS, ESL, GST, ARPC & other Premium Taxes
- Perform Finance Department operations such as expense management through the relevant T&E; system and controlling expenditure;
- Support the documentation of Reinsurance Arrangements twice a year. Manage accounting for the 2 internal RI Treaties and review quarterly bordereau’s.
- Support the Branch's Chief Actuary by providing financial information and analysis
- Perform modelling and scenario analysis on the Branch's risk appetite and establish capital management strategies. Ensure the risk register is updated at least annually and all Finance related Risk and related polices are updated annually.
- Establish a control framework around the ledger (including a review of the local adj ledger, regular review of manual entries posted
- Perform ad hoc analysis and support the CFO in various tasks as required.
- Lead or supervise both Global and Local Projects as they arise.

- Industry Knowledge: Extensive experience in General Insurance Finance with a deep understanding of performance drivers of an insurance P&L; and the way the drivers interact with each other

- Continuous Improvement Focused: Willing to ask questions and explore new ideas. Eager to learn and focused on continuously improving skills and capabilities.
- Customer Service: High dedication to internal client service and diplomacy in all situations.
- Ethical approach: Have an impeccable reputation for ethics, integrity and the highest standards of professionalism.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree and post degree qualifications (CA or CPA).
