We are seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join our Finance team in a key operational role supporting payroll delivery across the MiGroup brands.
Based at our head office in Milton, Brisbane, this permanent full-time position works closely with the Head of Finance and Finance Manager and is responsible for ensuring our employees are paid accurately and on time, while supporting the associated client invoicing processes.
We are looking for someone with demonstrated payroll experience who understands the importance of accuracy, compliance and responsive service in a payroll function.
The role
Payroll is a critical part of our business operations. Our Finance team manages payroll services across the MiGroup brands, including a weekly, timesheet-based payroll for apprentices and trainees employed by MIGAS and hosted with clients across a range of industries, together with the fortnightly payroll for corporate employees.
The hosted employee payroll involves interpreting and applying a range of Awards and Enterprise Agreements, including complex pay conditions, allowances, penalties and other employment entitlements. Accuracy is essential, as payroll processing is directly linked to client invoicing and the service we provide to our employees and host employers.
Key responsibilities
- Process weekly end-to-end payroll accurately and within required timeframes
- Review and process timesheets, ensuring employees are paid correctly in accordance with the applicable Award, Enterprise Agreement or other industrial instrument
- Interpret and apply Awards and Enterprise Agreements, including relevant allowances, penalty rates and employment conditions
- Monitor and respond to payroll enquiries from apprentices, trainees and host employers in a timely and professional manner
- Prepare accurate client invoices using payroll and billing software functionality effectively
- Investigate and resolve client invoice queries and disputes, including preparing payroll and invoice adjustments where required
- Process, manage and reconcile wage subsidies
- Maintain accurate payroll records and support payroll compliance requirements
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of payroll processes and systems
- Provide support and backfill across the Finance team as required
About you
You are an experienced payroll professional who understands that getting payroll right matters. You are comfortable working with detailed information, managing deadlines and investigating discrepancies to ensure accurate outcomes.
You will bring
- Demonstrated experience in a payroll processing role,
ideally involving end-to-end payroll
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to payroll accuracy
- Experience interpreting and applying Awards, Enterprise Agreements and relevant payroll legislation
- Solid organisational skills and the ability to manage a high-volume, deadline-driven workload
- Sound analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies
- A professional and service-focused approach when dealing with employees and clients
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- A proactive and accountable approach to your work
Skills and experience
- Previous payroll processing experience
- Working knowledge of Australian payroll requirements and employment conditions
- Experience interpreting Awards and/or Enterprise Agreements
- Demonstrated ability to work accurately with detailed payroll and financial information
- Payroll experience within manufacturing, engineering, trades, labour hire, group training or another environment involving multiple industrial instruments an advantage
- Experience with timesheet-based payroll
- Experience with Astute Payroll or similar payroll software
- Experience with payroll-linked client invoicing
