About Us?

The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.

The Regional and Specialist team includes Integrated Specialist Services, Mental Health and Wellbeing Services, Primary Healthcare Services, Birthing and Early Childhood Services (South), and Child and Youth Services. Our purpose is to connect, guide, and empower teams and communities through culturally safe, transparent, and responsive ways.

About the Role?

As Regional Optometrist, your role is to provide direct culturally appropriate eye health services to clients as part of a multi- disciplinary team/program.

Your day to day duties may include:

- Provide clinical assessments within a Primary Health Care setting.
- Provide referral and support to both our visiting ophthalmologist and cataract surgery program.
- Promote Optometry within the organisation and across the region.
- Liaise with health professionals including GPs, and other health workers on patient care.




- Prepare reports and legal summaries for government departments and other relevant agencies e.g. Work cover, Centrelink, etc. as required.

About You?

- Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD).
- AHPRA Registration.
- Current Disability Worker Screening Check (Qld Yellow Card).
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Australian Optometry Qualification with Therapeutics Endorsement.

Desirable, but not mandatory:

- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
