Xavier College is seeking a practical and proactive Design and Technology Assistant to join our Gawler Belt (7-12) Campus. This position provides technical and operational support to the Design and Technology faculty, ensuring workshop facilities, equipment and resources are maintained to a high standard while supporting the delivery of engaging practical learning experiences for students.

Commencing January 2027, this permanent, part-time position is offered across 41 weeks of the school year, working Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 4.00pm.

As the Design and Technology Assistant, you will:

- Prepare materials, tools, equipment and workshop spaces to support practical learning activities
- Assist with the maintenance, cleaning and organisation of workshop facilities, machinery, tools and storage areas
- Support workplace health and safety processes, including maintaining safety documentation, registers and risk assessments
- Assist with workshop inspections, hazard identification and compliance activities
- Monitor stock levels and maintain inventories of materials, equipment and consumables
- Coordinate the ordering, receipt and protected storage of workshop resources and supplies
- Provide technical support and guidance to students in the safe use of tools, materials and equipment under teacher direction
- Maintain accurate administrative, financial and WHS records relating to Design and Technology operations
- Contribute to the effective day-to-day operation of the Design and Technology learning area

About You

The successful candidate will be a practical and highly organised professional with experience working in a trade, workshop or Design and Technology environment.



They will possess strong technical skills, sound knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements, and the ability to maintain resources, equipment and workshop facilities to a high standard. They will demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and a commitment to supporting student learning through the provision of safe, effective and engaging practical learning environments.

What You Need to Be Successful

- Certificate IV trade qualification or relevant industry experience
- Experience working in a workshop, trade or Design and Technology environment
- Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements and risk management practices
- Experience maintaining tools, equipment, inventories and workshop resources
- Strong organisational, administrative and record-keeping skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital record management systems
- Current Working with Children Check and relevant CESA compliance requirements
- Current First Aid certificate or willingness to obtain
