About the Role

We’re looking for a Lead Engineer to join our growing team and help establish our Australian engineering function.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll continue to design, build and review production code while also leading the team, supporting engineers and helping drive delivery. You’ll work across our Laravel backend and React/Next.js frontend, solving complex technical problems and helping set the direction for the platform.

This is a hybrid role based from our Smithfield office, with flexibility across Australia.

What You'll Do

- Design, develop and deliver features across Laravel/PHP and React/Next.js.

- Work across the full development lifecycle, from technical design through to production.

- Design and maintain scalable solutions across multi-region AWS environments.

- Manage complex database changes, including zero-downtime migrations, queued jobs and API versioning.

- Lead technical work across key integrations including Pinch, Windcave, Stripe, Chargebee and Xero.

- Review code and help establish strong standards around testing, documentation, observability and releases.

- Troubleshoot complex production issues and help maintain the reliability and performance of the platform.

- Lead and support Australian engineers through regular 1:1s, feedback, development and performance conversations.





- Support sprint planning, estimation, prioritisation and delivery.

- Work closely with Product, Support and ANZ management to understand priorities and turn them into practical engineering solutions.

What You'll Bring

- 5+ years’ professional software development experience with strong, current expertise in Laravel/PHP, React, Next.js and TypeScript.

- 1+ years’ experience leading engineers with genuine line-management responsibility.

- Strong experience designing and building multi-tenant SaaS applications in production.

- Deep MySQL knowledge, including query optimisation, indexing and online schema changes.

- Strong AWS experience in production; Elastic Beanstalk experience is highly regarded.

- Experience working with mature, complex production codebases.

- Experience managing engineering delivery, prioritisation and stakeholder expectations.

- Solid communication skills and the ability to work effectively across teams and time zones.

- A hands-on approach and a genuine interest in continuing to write and review production code.

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
