Family Connections: Micah Projects adapted model of the Family Connections Program Family Connections is an approach developed and tested over more than 25 years in the USA. The program was piloted in Australia by Micah Projects over 18 months concluding in June 2026. The program is grounded in prevention and intervention practices with a focus on supporting families to reduce risk factors and increase protective factors in the family environment. At its core, Family Connections is a strength based, systems orientated approach, offering in-home family support, the program uses the evidence-based Common Assessment Tool (CAT) to identify needs and outcome driven support plans.

As a Peer Support Worker you will work as part of the Family Connections team providing a strength-based approach, to support and engage with families. Provide support to vulnerable families, where consent is provided, who are experiencing severe disadvantage, complex challenges and who are at high risk of escalating child protection involvement. The Family Connections Program will use the Micah Projects adapted model of the Family Connections USA approach.





This is a part-time employment opportunity for 2 days a week until 30 June 2028 at Level 2 of the SCHADS Award.

Key Responsibilities:

- Support parents in their parenting role by developing a connection and rapport which facilitates a trusting, collaborative relationship between families and the Family Connections Team.
- Provide social and emotional support to families to increase their self-confidence, trust, self-esteem and reduce social isolation.
- Work collaboratively with families, Family Connections team members, other Micah Projects team and community to ensure positive outcomes for children of vulnerable families.

Essential Criteria:

- Personal experience of systems to support your family, such as the Family Connections Program, child protection system and/or other family support systems (such as housing or domestic violence prevention) in Qld or successful engaging with a Micah Projects program.
- A general understanding of child development
- A commitment to work according to the policy, procedures and quality frameworks endorsed by Micah Projects.
