Alongside its retail offering, it provides professional pharmacy services, including immunisation and health-related support. Patient safety, accurate advice and continuity of care for local residents are central to the service. The team works closely with customers and local prescribers so that every person leaves with the right medicine and the information they need to use it safely.

About the Position

The Pharmacist is the registered health professional responsible for the pharmacy's dispensary and its professional services. The role ensures that every prescription is clinically appropriate, legally compliant and supplied safely. It covers dispensing, patient counselling and medication reviews, and it involves working with local doctors and other healthcare providers to resolve medication issues. The Pharmacist also supervises the pharmacy's support staff and manages dispensary workflow, stock and controlled medicines.



In a regional town where the pharmacy is often the most accessible point of health advice, this position directly determines the quality and safety of care the business provides to its community.

Key Responsibilities

- Dispense prescription medicines accurately and in accordance with Commonwealth and Victorian legislation, Pharmacy Board of Australia standards and pharmacy procedures.
- Review each prescription for clinical appropriateness, including interactions, contraindications, dosage and other medication-related issues, before supply.
- Counsel patients on the safe and effective use of prescription and over-the-counter medicines, and give professional advice on health and medication queries.
- Conduct medication reviews, health checks and other professional pharmacy services within the pharmacist's scope of practice.
- Liaise with doctors, other healthcare professionals and patients to resolve medication-related queries and support continuity of care.
- Maintain accurate patient, dispensing and medication records, and keep patient information private and confidential.
- Manage dispensary workflow, including stock control, ordering, correct storage and expiry monitoring of medicines.
- Manage Schedule 8 and other controlled medicines in line with legislative recording, storage and reporting requirements.




- Ensure compliance with AHPRA and Pharmacy Board of Australia requirements, PBS rules, Victorian legislation, and relevant professional standards and policies.
- Supervise and support pharmacy assistants, dispensary technicians, interns and other staff.
- Participate in quality improvement, continuing professional development and day-to-day pharmacy operations to support protected and efficient service delivery.

Requirements

- Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply.
- Bachelor degree or higher qualification in Pharmacy.
- Current registration as a pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Australia through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a pharmacist.
- Sound working knowledge of:
- dispensing software
- PBS claiming and requirements
- Schedule 8 and controlled-medicine obligations, including real-time prescription monitoring through SafeScript
- stock control and ordering systems

- Strong communication and counselling skills, with the ability to explain medication information clearly to patients of all ages and backgrounds.
- High attention to detail and a firm commitment to patient safety.
- Ability to supervise and guide support staff, and to work effectively both independently and as part of a small team.
- Customer-focused approach, sound judgement under pressure and availability to work the pharmacy's trading hours.
