Love being outdoors, working with your hands and seeing the difference a good day’s work can make?

Darwin Turf Club is looking for a reliable and practical Groundsperson / General Hand to join our Facilities and Racing Operations team.

This is not a sit-behind-a-desk job. One day you might be mowing and tidying the grounds, the next fixing something around the venue, helping prepare for a race day or setting up for a function. You will be part of the team that keeps the racecourse, gardens, stables and wider Club looking sharp and ready to go.

What you’ll be doing

You will help with a mix of grounds, maintenance and event preparation work, including:

- Keeping the racecourse, gardens and outdoor areas neat, tidy and well presented

- Mowing, pruning, hedging, brush cutting, blowing and weed control

- Watering, irrigation repairs and general garden upkeep

- General maintenance and handy-person jobs around buildings, stables and Club facilities

- Cleaning up leaves, cuttings, drains, gutters and outdoor work areas

- Helping set up furniture, equipment and operational areas for race days and functions

- Responding to maintenance jobs and helping keep track of work completed

- Assisting contractors when required

- Operating mowers, forklifts, EWP, chainsaws and other equipment where qualified and approved

- Pitching in wherever needed to keep the Club running well

About you

You do not need to know everything,



but you do need to be someone who is happy to get stuck in, takes pride in their work and can be relied upon.

You will ideally have:

- Experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, landscaping, labouring or general maintenance

- Handy-person or trade-related skills such as mechanical work, carpentry, painting, welding or metal fabrication

- A current driver’s licence

- Valuable attention to detail and a practical approach to solving problems

- The ability to work safely and follow instructions

- A positive attitude and the ability to work well with others

- Flexibility to work weekends and varied hours around race days and events

- Full availability between June and August, which is our busiest period

A few things to know

This is a proper outdoor, hands-on role in Darwin conditions. It can be hot, physical and dirty at times, but you will be working across one of Darwin’s best-known sporting and events venues with a good crew around you.

You will need to be comfortable being on your feet, working outside in varying weather and getting involved in whatever needs doing.
