Talent Scout Consulting is partnering with an established engineering and manufacturing business to recruit an experienced Draftsperson for their Hexham operation.

Our client designs and manufactures engineered solutions for projects across the power, infrastructure, industrial and resources sectors, with fabrication and production capabilities based locally in the Hunter.

This is a practical, hands-on drafting role where you’ll work closely with engineers, project teams and the workshop to turn concepts and designs into accurate, build-ready drawings.

The Role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you’ll be responsible for producing and maintaining accurate 2D and 3D drawings and associated documentation to support fabrication, machining, assembly and installation activities.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Producing fabrication drawings, GA drawings, detailed part drawings, assembly drawings and site layouts
- Translating engineering concepts, sketches and redlines into production-ready drawings
- Creating and maintaining BOMs, cut lists and DXF/NC files for laser/plasma profiling and CNC machining
- Producing clear workshop-ready drawing packages, including weld symbols, tolerances, materials, section details and revision histories
- Managing drawing revisions, ECNs/ECRs and document control
- Maintaining CAD libraries, templates, title blocks and drawing registers
- Working closely with engineers, project managers, procurement and production teams
- Liaising directly with workshop supervisors, fabricators, boilermakers, machinists and QA to resolve drawing queries
- Supporting as-built documentation and drawing updates
- Contributing to design-for-manufacture and continuous improvement initiatives.





About You We’re looking for someone who understands that good drafting isn't just about producing a technically correct drawing – it needs to be clear, practical and ready for the workshop to build from.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

- A Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, Engineering Design or similar – or equivalent practical experience
- Drafting experience ideally within a manufacturing or fabrication environment
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor
- Experience with structural steel, platework, welded assemblies and/or machined components
- The ability to produce detailed fabrication drawings, including weld symbols, GD&T; and BOMs
- Experience with drawing revision control and document management
- An understanding of relevant AS/NZS steel and welding standards
- Basic structural design knowledge
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities
- The confidence to communicate directly with engineers and workshop personnel
- A White Card and an understanding of workshop safety practices.

Experience with ISO 9001, LEAN/5S, Safety in Design or ERP/MRP systems such as Pronto, SAP or Epicor would also be well regarded.
