Commercial (Property) Lawyer
Baseline Clearance - $1040 to $1400 daily rate inc super
initial 12 month secondment with the possibility up to 12 month extension
part time

The Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Commercial Lawyer to provide legal advice and support to a commercial, governance and information team within a Commonwealth Agency’s Legal Division.

The Responsibilities

The key responsibilities will include:
day-to-day commercial legal support, including drafting and reviewing contracts for goods and services, deeds, licences, confidentiality arrangements, conflict of interest declarations, whether relating to the project or the Agency;
property and planning support, including Lands Acquisition Act 1989 (Cth) processes, due diligence, leasing, property transactions, compulsory acquisition activities and engagement with state government departments and planning authorities and local councils;
construction and infrastructure legal support, including major delivery contracts, construction and infrastructure contracts, alliance and PPP structures, framework agreements,



and Public Works Committee Act 1969 (Cth) processes;
ad hoc legal support across stakeholder engagement, First Nations matters, corporate services, employment, project-related issues and management of external legal advisers; and
Commonwealth compliance work, including reporting, PGPA Act 2013 (Cth) processes, record-keeping, accountability, government policies and supporting the Agency’s compliance with legal obligations, including under the Legal Services Directions 2025 (Cth).

The Requirements

Experience working as a Commercial Lawyer with in-house Commonwealth government legal teams and having extensive experience advising on Commonwealth property, development and leasing and major infrastructure projects would be highly regarded.

Legal qualifications, a Baseline clearance and a current (or ability to obtain) practicing certificate is essential. The successful candidates also need to be willing to undergo any required additional employment suitability checks.
