Gazette is a media company building a network of local newsrooms across Australia. We make high-quality local news freely available in the formats and on the channels where people already spend their time, so communities can connect with, contribute to and navigate the big issues where they live. We are fully independent and funded by a mix of advertising, philanthropy and reader donations. Our newsrooms are small, digitally native and fast moving. Reporters here have real room to try things and to shape the voice of their masthead.

The role

n

You will drive the launch of a new masthead in a current patch covering Darwin and Palmerston. There are thousands of stories in the area, from local characters to the big questions shaping the region's future.

You will publish free local news, lifestyle and culture across newsletters, social, video and our website, with a focus on practical, helpful information and explicit reporting on underreported issues: climate and energy, cost of living, housing, infrastructure, education, healthcare and essential services.

Day to day, you will:

Find and report local stories that matter, across news, lifestyle and culture,



from everyday community issues to public interest work

n

Work across formats, from short explainers and newsletters to social posts and vertical video

n

Spend real time in the community, building relationships with locals, businesses, community groups and decision makers

n

Shape the editorial voice of a young masthead, and try formats and ideas nobody has tried yet

n

Work with our editorial and audience teams to grow reach

n

You will report to Brad Esposito, Editorial Director, and join a team of 10 reporters across nine mastheads. You can see our other mastheads are at gazettenews.au.
