Job Description
Sales Rep on the Road - Travel VIC & TAS, Learn a Trade
If someone had offered you an apprenticeship at Lady Bae - the number one salon in Ballarat - could you have done it?
Not would you have.
Could you have.
I reckon forty per cent of my year could have.
They just never got asked.
I got asked, I took it, and at twenty-one I went into business with them.
Most people don't choose their trade.
It chooses them at sixteen.
So I'm asking now.
I'm Matt Grumley.
I make hairdressing scissors.
Behind the chair since ****, started ShearGenius in ****, more than forty thousand pairs sold to hairdressers and barbers around the country.
A few days a week I drive a van full of scissors around Victoria and Tasmania, walking into salons and barbershops.
I need someone in the passenger seat.
What you actually get
Paid to travel.
Ararat, the Grampians, down the coast, across to Tasmania.
And you're not the one driving - that part's my job.
A trade, taught properly.
Steel, sizes, edges, what suits which hand and which way of cutting.
Most people never get taught anything properly again after they turn twenty.
Nights away booked and paid for.
Accommodation and meals on me.
Nothing out of your pocket and no receipts to chase.
$32 to $45 an hour plus super, reviewed at three months.
Paid annual leave and sick leave.
This is a permanent job, not casual.
Customers who are glad to see you.
No cold calling, no scripts, no head office, no KPIs from someone who has never done the job.
Some of these salons have bought from us for twenty years.
One thing I'll say plainly,

because I'd rather lose you now than in month four.
This is a sales job.
You will be expected to sell.
The door is warm and the product is good, but selling is the work.
What you need
To be genuinely good with people.
Not smooth.
Positive.
To get yourself to Ballarat most mornings.
Daylesford, Creswick, Ballan, Bacchus Marsh, Maryborough, Beaufort and Clunes are all in range.
You don't need to be a hairdresser.
You don't need sales experience.
I'll teach you that part.
The kind of person I'm after
Someone a bit off-centre.
Not straight off the production line, not rehearsed, not corporate.
I'd rather have someone with a bit of character and an opinion of their own than someone who tells me what they think I want to hear.
There's no HR script in the van - Aaron and I say what we think, and we expect you to give it back.
The days
A few days a week to start, and more if you want them.
Some weeks are three days, some are four.
You'll know the week before.
If you want it to become full-time, say so - for the right person it will.
I will make you a better person.
Not just better at selling.
Better.
You'll learn to walk into a room full of strangers and be useful.
You'll learn a craft from the person who actually makes the thing.
You'll learn to hold your end of a conversation with anyone.
People change when they finally get good at something they chose.
Be careful - Don't provide your bank or credit card details when applying for jobs.
Don't transfer any money or complete suspicious online surveys.
If you see something suspicious, report this job ad.
