Southwell Engineering is looking for an experienced
Laser Cutting & Brake Press Operator
to join our manufacturing team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and reliable tradesperson with experience in
laser cutting, brake press operation and sheet-metal fabrication
to become part of a growing company specialising in lifts, hoists and lifting equipment.
The Role
Working within our manufacturing workshop, you will be responsible for producing high-quality components and assemblies used in our lift and hoist systems.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Operating and setting up
laser cutting machinery
.
Operating and setting up
brake presses
.
Cutting, folding and forming sheet metal to engineering specifications.
Reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
Selecting appropriate tooling and machine settings.
Measuring and inspecting finished components for accuracy.
Working with a range of steel and sheet-metal products.
Assisting with general fabrication and workshop duties when required.
Maintaining machinery, tooling and a clean, organised work area.




Working safely and following company procedures and quality standards.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
Previous experience operating
laser cutting and brake press machinery
.
The ability to confidently read engineering drawings.
Good understanding of measurements, tolerances and fabrication processes.
Strong attention to detail.
A practical, hands‐on approach to problem solving.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication skills and a strong work ethic.
A commitment to workplace safety and producing quality work.
Experience in
lifts, hoists, structural steel, engineering or general manufacturing
will be highly regarded.
