Forster Eye Surgery | Forster, NSW | Barrington Coast
An established practice. A ready-made surgical workload. A coastal life. Forster Eye Surgery is seeking a General Ophthalmologist with an interest in Oculoplastics to join our established specialist ophthalmology practice in Forster on the beautiful Barrington Coast of NSW. Ideally commencing December **** or January ****, this is an opportunity to step directly into a busy regional practice with an established referral network, substantial existing caseload and immediate consulting and surgical work. Full-time is preferred, although part time and flexible arrangements will be considered for the right ophthalmologist.
The Opportunity
The successful ophthalmologist will provide comprehensive general ophthalmology services, with access to a substantial existing cataract and oculoplastics workload.
There is strong demand for cataract surgery, together with an established oculoplastics referral base encompassing:
Eyelid and periocular skin cancers
Entropion and ectropion
Ptosis
Eyelid lesions
Lacrimal disorders
Functional and reconstructive oculoplastic procedures
Other general oculoplastic presentations
There is considerable scope for the successful ophthalmologist to further develop the oculoplastics service according to their particular expertise and interests.
Opportunities are available across both private and public hospital settings, providing an attractive mix of consulting and surgical work.
The Role
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to:
Provide comprehensive general ophthalmology consultations and treatment
Undertake cataract and other general ophthalmic surgery




Assess and manage an established oculoplastics caseload
Undertake oculoplastic surgical procedures within their scope of practice
Participate in private and public hospital surgical lists
Work collaboratively with referring optometrists, general practitioners and other healthcare professionals
Contribute to the ongoing development of ophthalmology services for the region
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants should hold specialist qualifications in ophthalmology and be eligible for specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia, or be able to satisfy the applicable requirements for registration to practise ophthalmology in Australia.
Applicants should demonstrate:
Appropriate training and experience in general ophthalmology
Competence in cataract surgery
Experience and/or a demonstrated interest in oculoplastics
Appropriate clinical and surgical skills relevant to the position
A commitment to high-quality, patient-centred care
Effective communication and collaborative working skills
Applications are welcomed from suitably qualified Australian, New Zealand and international ophthalmologists.
International applicants will need to meet the relevant Australian specialist assessment, registration and immigration requirements. Forster Eye Surgery can provide assistance in navigating the applicable pathways where appropriate.
Remuneration
Professional fees are paid directly to the ophthalmologist, with the practice invoicing the ophthalmologist for an agreed percentage of gross income generated.




Full details of the contractor arrangement, including applicable percentages and anticipated earning potential, will be discussed with applicants at interview.
