About the Team

The AEC has a dispersed network of 150 electoral divisions and single and multidivisional office sites across the state. Team Leader positions are available in: Bendigo, Dandenong, Essendon Fields, Gippsland, Laverton North, Melbourne, Ringwood, State Office CBD and Wodonga. You will be part of a network of Team Leaders and Senior Project Leads across the country, responsible for managing your work unit to support the proper conduct of federal elections and referendums. You will work closely with the State Office, National Office and colleagues across other states and territories.

Each APS 6 Team Leader will typically oversee a team of around 2-10 staff, however, this team size increases significantly during an election event where we scale up and engage our temporary election workforce. During the delivery of the election, the Team Leader will likely undertake the legislative responsibilities of the Divisional Returning Officer for a federal electoral division and will work to ensure that the division delivers an election result with transparency and integrity.

For the delivery of a federal election or local by-election, staffing rapidly expands to help manage increased workloads associated with risk management, project delivery, logistics, and media and public scrutiny.

The Opportunities

The Victoria State Operations team is seeking multiple Team Leaders to support election delivery. This is an chance to join the AEC and contribute to work that has a direct impact on Australia's democratic processes.

We are seeking experienced Team Leaders to lead teams responsible for divisional election planning, delivery and evaluation. You will be able to work effectively in a dynamic operational environment, exercise judgement under pressure and manage work with a high degree of autonomy while contributing to team outcomes.

During the preparation phase of the electoral cycle, you will be responsible for maintaining the accuracy and completeness of the electoral roll within your division and leading your team in preparation for the next federal event.

You will contribute to team objectives for short-term priorities and longer-term initiatives, including setting work priorities, maintaining team cohesion and ensuring high-quality outcomes.

You will be responsible for the supervision of temporary election staff, using your leadership skills to support workforce expansion during electoral events. You will join a leadership team committed to learning and self-development and be responsible for building technical capability and fostering career development.

We are seeking a motivated and capable professional who can demonstrate the skills, knowledge and experience required to perform successfully in this role, including:

- Demonstrated experience planning and delivering complex events or operational activities, including managing logistics, resources and competing priorities to achieve outcomes.
- Proven capacity to lead teams, build staff capability and establish productive working relationships with staff, contractors and stakeholders.
- Experience in managing compliance obligations, work health and safety requirements and operational risks, including applying legislation, policy and procedures to support safe and compliant operations.
- Demonstrated experience leading projects, implementing improvements or delivering change that has improved operational performance, service delivery or organisational outcomes.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement, solve problems and make effective decisions in response to operational issues and changing priorities.

Desirable

- Experience planning and coordinating projects, programs or large-scale operational activities within tight timeframes, including developing and implementing plans that align with legislative, policy and operational requirements.
- Experience leading operational teams, delivering services in customer-facing environments and coordinating large temporary workforces.
