An exciting prospect exists to join the Haematology Department at Illawarra Cancer Care Centre.

Where you'll be working

Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven's major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

Shoalhaven Hospital is a busy rural hospital which employs over 1,000 staff and is the main acute care hospital for the Shoalhaven region, providing emergency care, medical, surgical and orthopaedic services. Shoalhaven Hospital has an Intensive Care Unit focusing on high dependency and coronary patients, Children's Ward and Maternity Unit as well as a purpose-built regional Cancer Care Centre and sub-acute Mental Health Unit. Shoalhaven Hospital is currently undergoing a $438 million redevelopment.

What you'll be doing

This position description is for a clinical advanced trainee in haematology (suitable for joint trainees, RACP only or unaccredited trainees)
Clinical Haematology Advanced Trainees manage patients with a range of haematological conditions, including haemopoietic stem cell transplant patients under the supervision of Specialist Haematologists. They will also attend clinical haematology consultations,



patients ambulatory care and outpatient settings (Wollongong and Shoalhaven clinics). They also provide laboratory haematology and transfusion advice to medical staff, and participate in the on call roster. It is desirable that new applicants to Haematology training can demonstrate experience in pathology or commitment to a career in haematology. Applicants already enrolled in Haematology training will need to demonstrate satisfactory progress.

Selection Criteria: * MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.

- Demonstrated commitment to Haematology Advanced Training program.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
- Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem-solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated involvement in patient safety and clinical quality improvement activities.
