Role: Advanced Trainee - Rehabilitation Medicine (Spinal Cord Injuries)

We have two vacancies available for a six-month contract (or rotation) spanning 1 February 2027 up to 1 August 2027.

About our Role

Our successful candidate would gain experience in all aspects of Spinal Cord Injury rehabilitation across acute and sub-acute rehabilitation.

Our role would be based at Prince of Wales Spinal Injuries Unit - the only co-located Acute Spinal Rehab facility in the country - inclusive of experience reviewing patients from the Community in Specialist outpatient clinics.

As an Advanced Trainee in Rehabilitation Medicine, your goal would be to progress through the AFRM Training program towards obtaining Fellowship. Your objectives would be to:

gain learning and experiences in general and specialised terms, utilising evidenced-based rehabilitation medicine principles.

perform comprehensive rehabilitation assessments which include patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures and maintaining adequate medical records; and developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment.

supervise general medical management of patients admitted/referred to the Department of Rehabilitation and build an integrated care plan with interdisciplinary teams and the department to achieve best patient outcome.

participate in consultative and outpatient services in a variety of ambulatory care settings which may include hospital facilities and private consulting rooms.





Liaise closely and effectively with consultants to demonstrate your level of ability and understanding of patient care and enable you to expand areas of responsibility.

All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.
