About the role

We are looking for a Customer Service Library Technician who is enthusiastic about assisting our community by delivering high-quality library and information services. In this position, you will provide excellent customer care to library users, offer support across various service points and locations, and help maintain smooth daily operations of our library service. You will also assist with administrative duties and a variety of operational responsibilities, working closely with senior staff and colleagues. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in helping build positive experiences for every library user.

This is a part-time position primarily located at Southbank Library

A bit more about the position

- Perform customer services duties, including issuing and returning of library materials, information desk duties including provision of reference and information services, and assist customers with photocopiers, library equipment, PCs and the Internet.
- Undertake shelving of library materials and shelf reading as required to ensure that collections are easily accessible
- Advise and recommend books and other library materials
- Provide relief at CoM Libraries service points as directed by senior staff
- Maintain displays, community information, noticeboards and brochure supplies
- Assist with collection maintenance, including weeding, to ensure that library collections are current and of high quality




- Provide ad hoc branch-related administrative support and perform other operational tasks as directed by senior staff

What your experience might look like
- A qualification of Associate Diploma of Applied Social Science (Library Technician) or equivalent desirable, and/or relevant experience
- Demonstrated customer service capability, with the ability to build positive, respectful relationships with a diverse community.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Demonstrated capability to respond calmly and constructively in complex or challenging situations to achieve positive outcomes.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work confidently with information, technology, literacy, and numeracy requirements.
- Ability to organise and manage multiple priorities in a busy setting, meeting agreed timeframes and work commitments.
