Our client is a large local government organisation in Townsville seeking an experienced Records Management Advisor to support the effective management and governance of information across Council.
This is a specialist records management role where you'll provide practical advice to business areas, help improve compliance and contribute to the ongoing maturity of Council's information management practices.
Working closely with Information Management, IT Services, Enterprise Architecture and business stakeholders, you'll act as a subject matter expert across the records lifecycle, from classification, storage and access through to retention, disposal and transfer.
You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to the improvement of records management processes, systems, controls and guidance, ensuring they remain practical, fit-for-purpose and aligned with legislative and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide specialist advice on records management obligations, procedures, controls and best practice across Council
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of Council's information management framework as it relates to records management
- Identify and implement improvements to records management processes, tools and controls
- Support the compliant management of hardcopy and digital records across the full records lifecycle
- Monitor and report on records management compliance, identifying issues, trends and opportunities for improvement
- Identify, assess and help mitigate records management risks across business areas
- Work with Information Management, IT Services, Enterprise Architects and business stakeholders to define records management requirements and support information management solutions
- Develop practical guidance, resources, tools and training to help embed consistent recordkeeping practices
- Provide specialist input into information governance, digital transformation and broader information management initiatives
- Analyse and document business requirements and records management needs, translating these into practical process and system improvements
- Support business areas to understand and apply relevant legislative, regulatory and Council requirements
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of records management policies, procedures, standards and templates
About You
7+ years' experience in records management, information management, governance, compliance or a related field, with demonstrated experience operating as a records management subject matter expert.
You'll also have:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Records Management, Information Management, Governance, Compliance, Business Administration or a related discipline
- Strong experience providing practical advice on records management obligations, practices and lifecycle controls
- Experience with compliance monitoring, reporting and assurance activities
- Strong understanding of records management systems and information governance principles within technology-enabled environments
- Sound knowledge of records lifecycle controls, retention and disposal,
access, security and information handling requirements
- Experience developing and implementing records management policies, procedures, standards, templates and guidance
- Strong knowledge of records and information management legislation, standards and requirements within a local government environment
- The ability to interpret legislative and regulatory requirements and translate them into practical advice for different audiences
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence positive behaviours and drive practical change
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, assess impacts and recommend practical improvements
- Experience working collaboratively across business and technology teams
- A proactive and practical approach to improving records management maturity, compliance and governance
- Current Queensland C Class Drivers Licence
