About the Department

The Disability Evidence Branch (DEB) within the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing (DHDA) is seeking up to five skilled casual staff to support the collection and qualitative analysis of public consultation input relating to disability supports.

About the Role

The role will contribute to the design and implementation of public consultation to inform evidence-based assessments of specific disability supports. Structured and unstructured qualitative data will be generated through these public consultations. The role involves working across the full data cycle, from extracting to interpreting and presenting insights. This will be used to inform high-level decision-making. The role will report directly to more senior colleagues in DEB, with oversight and direction from executive leadership, and work collaboratively with DEB team members.

Key Duties

- Liaising with internal stakeholders to ensure the consultation is implemented and supported by the appropriate legal, privacy, IT and other arrangements.
- Support and coordinate with colleagues within DEB to develop and refine consultation materials, including survey content and public communications.
- Transcribe audio and video submissions, manually or via approved automated transcription tools, and check for accuracy.
- Import and organise data into formats suitable for analysis - e.g. spreadsheets or qualitative data analysis software, such as NVivo.
- Code qualitative data, including generating codes and identifying themes.
- Work collaboratively to ensure data is analysed rigorously and consistently.
- Synthesise findings from consultation feedback.
- Support data visualisation and reporting by creating summary documents/reports, charts and presentations to accurately reflect findings.




- Support the team with additional related work items and deliverables as required

Key Skills and Capabilities

- Demonstrated experience in qualitative research methodologies.
- Experience analysing qualitative evidence within health and/or disability research would be highly desirable.
- Proficiency in thematic analysis and qualitative data analysis software (e.g., NVivo or similar).
- Understanding of sources of bias in qualitative analysis, and demonstrated use of strategies to mitigate risk of biased interpretation and reporting of results.
- Excellent analytical and high-level written communication skills to produce clear reporting of results.
- Excellent team-oriented working within a team, and an ability to work to manage competing demands.
- Ability to work across other areas of work, such as developing consultation material, working with key stakeholders.
- Experience with qualitative research and advice to or within government would be an advantage.
