You will work in line with Australian Standards, TGA requirements, manufacturer guidelines and RMH policies and procedures, using your technical judgement to manage complex equipment and systems.

As a senior member of the Biomedical Engineering team, you will also provide technical guidance, supervision and mentoring to Class 1 and 2 Biomedical Engineers. You will help build capability across the team while contributing to consistent, high-quality equipment maintenance and service delivery across Melbourne Health.

Key Accountabilities

- Offer timely and accurate advice to clinical staff regarding the evaluation, acquisition, maintenance, and retirement of medical equipment. Help to ensure decisions are evidence-based, cost-effective, and in line with clinical requirements
- The role contributes to both day-to-day operations and longer-term equipment planning
- Perform testing, calibration, and maintenance of medical equipment in line with AS/NZS 3551:2012 and other relevant standards (AS/NZS 3003:2018, AS/NZS 2500:2020, and AS/NZS 10535:2024)
- Support team performance by monitoring agreed key performance indicators (KPIs), identifying areas for improvement, and ensuring services align with industry standards and patient safety priorities
- Actively contribute to a psychologically safe, inclusive, and performance-focused team culture where ideas and concerns can be raised openly.

About You

You will bring:

- Demonstrated knowledge of medical equipment, protected areas, Australian Standards and TGA legislation
- A degree in Electronics or Biomedical Engineering and eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia or Professionals Australia




- Experience working within or with a tertiary health service
- Demonstrated experience supervising and mentoring junior Biomedical Engineering staff
- Demonstrated experience participating in an after-hours on-call service
- Proven ability to independently manage complex medical devices and systems, or lead a team in their management, using sound judgement and effective problem-solving skills

As a Biomedical Engineer - Class 3, you will play a key role in keeping medical equipment safe, reliable and fit for purpose across Melbourne Health. Working across a broad range of biomedical equipment, you will apply your technical expertise to the inspection, maintenance, calibration and repair of equipment used in patient care.
