We are currently seeking experienced Heavy Vehicle or Plant Mechanics to play a key role in keeping the council fleet vehicles and equipment in top condition. This hands-on role is ideal for experienced mechanics looking to work in a supportive, safety-focused team.

Based at Thornleigh or Fairfield Depot

Monday - Friday. Fulltime hours

Key Responsibilities:

- Service, maintain and repair a wide range of heavy vehicles and plant equipment including Garbage trucks, water carts, tippers, street sweepers, excavators, loaders, tractors and other hydraulic plant.

- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and transmission faults

- Keep accurate maintenance and service records

- Maintain workshop safety and assist with parts inventory

- Ensure all work complies with WHS and environmental standards

What You'll Need:

- Mechanic Trade Licence: Heavy Vehicle or Plant Mechanic

- HR Driver's Licence

- Proven experience working with heavy vehicles and machinery

- Solid knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems





- Experience with diagnostic tools and ECMs

- Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills

- Understanding of WHS and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) regulations

- Australian citizenship or permanent residency required

Highly Regarded:

- Heavy Vehicle Registration Inspector certification

- Welding and fabrication experience

- First Aid Certification

- Previous experience in fleet maintenance

Work Setting:

- Hands-on, physical role requiring lifting up to 25kg

- Indoor workshop and outdoor work environments

- PPE provided and required at all times
