Your new role
The focus of this role is to provide legal services that help JANA operate within its risk management framework, maintain compliance with all applicable laws, and ensure our contractual framework supports our commercial goals. Working closely with colleagues across the business and JANA’s leadership team, you will be a trusted adviser on contract negotiation and technical legal and regulatory questions, particularly in relation to JANA’s investment trust platform. This role is located in our [Melbourne / Sydney] office and reports to the Head of Legal.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

- Negotiate and review contracts with clients and third-party providers
- Provide technical input on regulatory and legal questions, particularly in relation to JANA’s investment trust platform (JANA is an institutional-focused business, so regulatory issues are present but less complex than in a retail workplace)
- Support the business to achieve its commercial objectives within risk appetite, taking a practical, solution-oriented approach
- Work with external law firms and suppliers on contract negotiation and legal matters as required
- Build trust and credibility with JANA staff, leadership and the Board to become a trusted adviser




- Prioritise your own workload through clear communication and collaboration with stakeholders
- Maintain your professional and technical knowledge through workshops, professional publications and networks

About you
Equally challenging and rewarding, this opportunity is perfect for someone with:

- Tertiary qualifications in law and a current practising certificate
- 7+ years’ experience in legal and/or compliance within financial services
- A solid understanding of financial services laws and investment funds, preferably with some exposure to funds management or superannuation
- Proven experience and expertise in contract negotiation
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal matters clearly to different audiences
- The ability to build trust and respect with internal staff and positively represent JANA’s brand with external stakeholders
- A commercial, solution-oriented mindset and the confidence to work autonomously on complex matters
