GM3 is an emerging Australian metallurgical coal mining entity owned by global investment entity Golden Energy and Resources (GEAR) and M Resources, a market leader in metallurgical coal industry services.

Illawarra Metallurgical Coal (IMC) produces premium quality, hard coking coal for steelmaking, which is transported within Australia and around the world. We operate two underground metallurgical coal mines, two preparation plants and a logistics chain.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Based primarily at Tahmoor, you'll join GM3's Digital Technology team and support infrastructure across our operations. You'll report to the Team Lead Infrastructure, Cloud and Cyber and work alongside our network, infrastructure and cloud specialists.

You'll combine practical server and comms room work with troubleshooting, recovery testing and infrastructure improvements. Your focus will be Dell and HPE servers, VMware, Windows Server, storage and backup, with operational support for site networks, identity and Azure.

Key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

- Install, configure and maintain server, virtualisation and storage platforms, along with racks, comms rooms, cabling and UPS.

- Monitor infrastructure and backups, investigate faults, test restores and participate in disaster recovery exercises.

- Support switching, wireless and site connectivity, implementing approved changes with the Senior Network Engineer.

- Deliver patching, firmware updates, security remediation and infrastructure upgrades through agreed change processes.

- Support Active Directory, Entra ID, Azure and Microsoft 365, working with End User Services on infrastructure-related issues.





- Own incidents and technical problems through to resolution, maintaining documentation and sharing knowledge.

- Deliver hands-on infrastructure project work across GM3, including server refreshes, platform upgrades and site integration, alongside the wider Digital Technology team and delivery partners.

- Support agreed IT infrastructure used by OT systems, coordinating changes with site OT teams.

- Participate in planned after-hours maintenance and on-call support under agreed team arrangements.

ABOUT YOU

You have solid infrastructure experience and you like being close to the systems you look after. You can work a fault through from the hardware up, and you finish what you start.

You document your work and share what you learn, so the next person is not starting from nothing. You can explain a technical problem to people who are not technical.

You are comfortable being the technical presence on site, and just as comfortable asking a colleague or a vendor when you need a hand.

This is a site-based role. You will be at Tahmoor, with some travel to our other operations.

Qualifications, skills and competencies:

- A relevant IT qualification or equivalent practical experience.

- At least five years' experience supporting production infrastructure, including physical server and comms room work.

- Hands-on VMware and Windows Server administration, with experience supporting Dell, HPE or comparable enterprise hardware.

- Experience with storage, backup platforms, restore testing and recovery procedures.





- Active Directory administration and working knowledge of Entra ID, hybrid identity and Azure infrastructure.

- Networking fundamentals across TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, routing, VPN, wireless and firewalls.

- Experience with incident, problem and change management, supported by clear documentation and communication.

- A current driver's licence, willingness to travel between GM3 sites and the ability to meet site access and induction requirements.

Mining, industrial or other high-availability experience is desirable, as is experience supporting infrastructure across multiple sites. Experience with OT environments, Microsoft 365, Intune, PowerShell or infrastructure migrations would also be useful, as would relevant VMware, Microsoft or Cisco certifications.

DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES

- Practical experience supporting and administering Linux-based systems in production environments.

- Experience developing automation to streamline infrastructure administration, improve consistency and reduce manual effort.

- A strong commitment to maintaining clear, current and reusable technical documentation alongside automated solutions.

- Experience leading or supporting technology modernisation initiatives, particularly migrations from legacy infrastructure and equipment to contemporary, future-ready environments.
