Forensic Science Queensland is seeking an accomplished forensic science leader to step into the pivotal role of Executive Manager – Forensic Innovation, Validation and Research. This is an opportunity to lead a strategically important function responsible for strengthening scientific validation, driving innovation and research and supporting the continued development of high-quality forensic services across both Forensic Biology and Forensic Chemistry.

Leading a specialist scientific team, you will provide strategic leadership and oversight of validation and verification activities across FSQ, ensuring new and existing methodologies, technologies, systems and processes are scientifically robust, operationally fit for purpose and aligned with accreditation and quality requirements. You will lead complex scientific and innovation projects from concept through to implementation, bringing together rigorous scientific practice, effective governance and a clear focus on measurable operational outcomes.

A key initial priority will be strengthening FSQ’s approach to validation and verification and ensuring robust frameworks and procedures are embedded across operational services. Beyond this, the role presents an opportunity to help shape the future direction of forensic science in Queensland – building research capability, identifying emerging technologies and methodologies, strengthening external partnerships and helping position FSQ as a recognised centre of excellence.

The successful candidate will bring demonstrated leadership experience within forensic science and a strong understanding of the realities of operational forensic service delivery.



You may bring specialist expertise from either forensic biology or forensic chemistry; importantly, you will have the breadth and credibility to work across disciplines and collaborate effectively with FSQ’s operational leaders and scientific specialists. You will combine scientific expertise with strategic thinking, strong project leadership and the ability to translate research and innovation into practical improvements within an operational forensic environment.

This role requires an influential communicator and relationship builder who can establish strong partnerships across FSQ, government, forensic science providers, research institutions and professional bodies. You will be comfortable leading through change, building capability and creating an environment in which scientific rigour, collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement can thrive.

FSQ provides specialised forensic biology and chemistry services supporting Queensland’s criminal justice and coronial systems and this role offers the chance to influence how those services evolve – ensuring current practices are scientifically sound while creating the connections, capability and frameworks required to meet future forensic challenges.
Mandatory requirements include a bachelor’s degree or higher in forensic science, science or a relevant field from a recognised tertiary institution. Relevant postgraduate research qualifications and a record of contribution to forensic science research will be highly regarded.
