Job Description

Survey Technician - Solar Farm (Foundation Systems & Quality Lead) The RIX Group is building a new Renewables Division focused on utility-scale solar farm foundations using advanced GPS-guided Earth Truss foundation systems. We are looking for a hands‑on Survey Technician - Solar Farm (Foundation Systems & Quality Lead) to help establish the technical systems, machine control workflows, field QA processes and digital reporting standards from day one. This is a ground‑floor prospect within a growing division, backed by an established contractor with 25 years of specialist contracting experience and a large national plant fleet.

The Role This role sits between the machines, GPS systems, design files, field crews and quality records. You will be responsible for ensuring foundations are installed in the correct location, within tolerance, with the required checks completed and records captured before crews move on.

You will be site‑based, practical and hands‑on. Operators, supervisors and engineers will rely on you when GPS setup, machine files, tolerances, calibration, QA records or remediation decisions need to be resolved. Key Responsibilities

- Set up and validate RTK GPS systems, base stations, rovers and machine control settings.
- Calibrate Truss Driver machines before production and after machine moves, GPS issues or workfront changes.
- Receive, check and control PNEZD installation files issued by the design team.
- Confirm coordinate systems, units, datum, projection and file versions before loading files to machines.
- Manage file allocation across machines, blocks and workfronts.





Carry out field QA inspections and identify out of tolerance foundations immediately.

- Maintain calibration records, inspection records, as-built data and remediation records.
- Build and manage digital QA capture systems using QGIS, QField and QFieldCloud.
- Produce daily and weekly production and quality reports.
- Coordinate proof load testing records with engineers and site teams.
- Support operators and supervisors with practical field troubleshooting.

Required Experience

- Hands-on RTK GNSS experience on construction sites (must have)
- GPS-guided screw anchor, piling or foundation rig experience (must have)
- Understanding of base stations, rovers, coordinate systems, datum, geoid, projection and units (must have)
- Experience with machine control or survey software such as StoneX (preferred), Leica, Topcon or Trimble.
- Field QA experience in a production construction environment.
- Strong attention to detail with files, records, version control and tolerances.
- Ability to communicate clearly with operators, supervisors, engineers and managers.

Highly Regarded

- Utility-scale solar farm experience in Australia (preferred).
- QGIS, QField or QFieldCloud experience.

(preferred)

- Understanding of AS2159 and pile load testing requirements.
- Ability to train technicians.
