- Lead a culturally safe space where Aboriginal women affected by family violence can gather, heal and connect.

About the Role

The Koori Women's Place delivers culturally appropriate support to Aboriginal women facing family violence. In this role you will work directly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to understand their needs and connect them with the right support, from material aid and case management to legal services and counselling.

You will also support the team to run a program of cultural and wellbeing activities, leading the delivery of workshops that give Aboriginal women a place to gather, share and feel empowered. This is an outreach role, so you'll travel to locations across Victoria to attend community events and deliver programs where women need them. This is a job for someone who brings warmth, humour and flexibility to a team.

What You'll Do

- Create a welcoming, culturally safe space for Aboriginal women at the Koori Women's Place
- Assess safety and support needs, providing warm referrals for legal or case management support
- Support the delivery of KWP's cultural and wellbeing workshops, from planning through to attendance records
- Represent Djirra at community events and the Sister's Day Out Program across Victoria
- Build and maintain relationships with donors and stakeholders, and spot opportunities to strengthen referral pathways and community engagement

Who You Are

- You understand family violence and the drivers behind violence against women
- You have experience working with Aboriginal organisations, communities or individuals, ideally in a senior or lead capacity
- You've led the delivery of workshops, events or gatherings




- Experience working with Aboriginal women is a solid plus
- You build genuine connections with Aboriginal communities and communicate with care around trauma
- You're comfortable with the Microsoft suite of tools
- You hold a current driver's licence and can travel for out-of-hours or overnight work when needed

Requirements

- A Victorian Employees Working with Children's Check card or willing to obtain one
- Willing to obtain a Police Check at Djirra's expense
- Driver’s License
- Experience working in Aboriginal organisations and the community in roles requiring knowledge and intuitive skills to support Ab-original women.
- Experience in the family violence sector, preferably with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women will be highly regarded but is not essential.
- Tertiary qualifications in Community Services or related discipline will be highly regarded but are not essential
