Initially a 6 month secondment with a view to extend into a permanent position.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide practical legal and regulatory advice on Australian financial services laws and regulatory requirements.
- Advise on regulatory obligations relevant to financial institutions operating in Australia.
- Support legal matters relating to capital markets, securities, derivatives, and market infrastructure activities.
- Assist with the interpretation and implementation of evolving regulatory requirements and industry developments.
- Support business initiatives and regulatory change projects, including the assessment and implementation of new legal and regulatory obligations.
- Assist with regulatory engagement and communications with relevant Australian regulatory authorities.
- Advise on prudential and banking regulatory matters affecting the organisation's operations.
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments and provide transparent, commercially focused guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Partner with business, compliance, risk, and operational teams to manage regulatory issues and support business objectives.
Requirements
- Qualified lawyer with 8-12 years' post-qualification experience (PQE) gained at a leading law firm, financial institution, regulator, or a combination of these environments.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: financial services regulation, banking regulation, capital markets, derivatives, regulatory advisory, or broader financial regulatory matters.
- Strong legal analysis, drafting, and stakeholder management skills.
- Commercially minded with the ability to provide pragmatic and solutions-oriented advice.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work collaboratively across multiple stakeholder groups.
- Prior experience across all of the areas outlined above is not required. Candidates with a solid regulatory foundation and a genuine interest in expanding their expertise will be well suited to the role.
