About the role

You will join one of the world's leading and most connected rural health services as a Health and Security Assistant, where we are driven by a single goal: healthier rural people and thriving communities.

In this important support role, you will assist the nursing team in the delivery of patient care under the direction and supervision of nursing staff. Duties include providing general ward assistance, undertaking cleaning activities, assisting with patient transfers throughout the facility, and performing security-related tasks as required.

The role involves cleaning various areas across the hospital, including inpatient units and clinical areas, while also carrying out routine security checks and monitoring activities throughout each shift. You will work closely with members of the cleaning team, nursing staff, and other patient support service staff to ensure a safe, clean, and supportive environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

This position is part of the Patient Support Services Team at Parkes Hospital, which consists of approximately 20 staff working across cleaning, catering,



and security services. The service operates seven days per week and provides essential support across the hospital.

Shifts are available across both weekdays and weekends and include:

- Day Shift: 6:00am to 2:30pm
- Night Shift: 7:30pm to 6:00am

Night shifts are 10-hour shifts and include a 20-minute paid break and a 30-minute unpaid break.

The successful applicant will be supported through a structured buddy system and ongoing team assistance to ensure they develop the skills and confidence required to perform the role effectively. As the position involves cleaning duties, patient support activities, and security-related responsibilities throughout the duration of each shift, a good level of physical fitness and the ability to undertake physically demanding tasks are essential requirements.
