Registrar Positions - providing entry into the Victorian Paediatric Training Program in 2027.

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) in Melbourne is a leading provider of specialist public health services for children and adolescents and is the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria, caring for children from Tasmania and southern Recent South Wales as well as other states around Australia and overseas. We welcome applications for 2027 Junior Resident Medical Officer Positions and 2027 entry in Victorian Basic Paediatric Training Registrar Positions.

The Victorian Basic Paediatric Training Consortium (VBPTC) oversees basic paediatric training across a network of two primary training programs based at the Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) and Monash Children's Hospital (MCH), and a total of sixteen outer metropolitan, regional and rural adjunct training program sites. Trainees will be exposed to a full range of clinical services provided in the care of children and their families.

In order to become a Basic Paediatric Trainee (BPT) with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), trainees must first secure an accredited position. Trainees can potentially enter BPT as either a Junior Resident Medical Officer (JRMO), Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO), or Rotating Registrar or Consortium Registrar.

Recruitment for entry into basic paediatric training at registrar level occurs through the RCH in coordination with the VBPTC.

Application Process

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for a 2027 Registrar position you must:
- demonstrate at least 24 months of paediatric experience, including at minimum six (6)



months of neonatal intensive care (note: no more than 12 months of neonatology will be considered in the 24 months of experience required)
- Hold GENERAL medical registration in Australia by 1 February 2027

Please note: a maximum of 12 months of neonatology experience will be considered in the 24 months of total paediatric experience that is required.

Applications

The application consists of three (3) parts, and all three parts must be completed within the timeframes specified for your application to be considered:
- Three (3) written references via the Online Reference Nomination Form
- Online Application Form
- RCH Careers Portal (including upload of current curriculum vitae)

Part 1: Reference Reports

You are required to nominate three (3) referees via the Online Reference Nomination Form. These referees will then be emailed directly by RCH to complete a reference report for you.

Three (3) references are required for a complete application:
- Two (2) references from medical consultants (the referee must have been a consultant when they worked with you)
- One (1) reference from a senior nurse (for example: Nurse Unit Manager or Nurse Practitioner)





You must have worked with your nominated referees as a junior doctor NOT as a medical student.

You will be required to provide the following details for each referee:
- Full name
- Email address
- Details of position/place of work – e.g. Consultant, Nurse Unit Manager, Nurse Practitioner, etc.

Applicants must ensure all referees are aware that they may be contacted by RCH staff (via telephone and or email) during the recruitment process.

Applicants are encouraged to complete the Online Reference Nomination Form as soon as possible in their application process.

The Online Reference Nomination Form will be open from 18 May to 7 June 2026.

References will only be accepted if received before 15 June 2026 COB.

Applicants will receive a confirmation email once all three references are received.

Part 2: Online Application Form

The Online Application Form must be completed in one sitting as there is no option to save and return to the application.

It is suggested that you have a copy of your curriculum vitae as a reference when you are completing the Online Application Form.

Part 3: RCH Careers Portal

You will be required to upload a copy of your current curriculum vitae.
