Join Our Senior Garden Ranger Pool

Are you ready to turn your passion for plants, people, and place into purpose? The Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium is seeking energetic and motivated Casual Senior Garden Rangers to help shape the visitor experiences across our iconic garden sites.

As a Senior Garden Ranger, you’ll be helping to maintaining beautiful, protected, and vibrant spaces for visitors to explore and enjoy. You’ll lead by example, combining hands-on horticulture with visitor engagement and site stewardship. From keeping our gardens thriving to ensuring our visitors feel welcome and informed, this role is about care, connection, and custodianship.

About the Role:

The Garden Ranger delivers quality visitor experiences at key botanic garden sites, through the provision of basic site amenity and safety tasks, visitor assistance, and enforcement of the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium Act 1978 and Regulations 2021.

The role will support the daily delivery of site maintenance by:

- Assisting in providing and maintaining high standards of living collections, cleanliness of sites and infrastructure.
- Responsive delivery of information, advice and/or assistance that enables a safe and rewarding visitor experience to the botanic garden.
- Providing support for event delivery, site activation and daily visitor support services
- Responding to possible security and/or public safety issues.

Contract: Multiple 12-Month Casual Contracts

Desirable Qualifications: Certificate III in Horticulture (Trade Level Qualifications) or equivalent.

Special Conditions:

- Will be required to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.
- You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or provide evidence that you hold a valid working visa that allows you to work in Australia.
- This role has been identified as a Position of Trust. You will be required to provide a valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check prior to being employed, which is required to be renewed every three years before expiry. DEW will cover the cost of renewal.
- This role has been identified as a Prescribed Position. You will be required to provide a valid Department of Human Services Working with Children Check prior to being employed, which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. DEW will cover the cost of renewal.
- Will be required to work outside of normal working hours, including weeknights, on weekends, public holidays and any other duties as required.
- Will be required to participate on a roster system for duties associated with the role including on call and standby arrangements as required.



A flexible approach to duty hours is essential.
- Wearing a company uniform during working hours and/or when representing the department is mandatory.
- The incumbent may be assigned to a position at another site dependent on organisational and individual requirements.

A successful applicant who is not currently employed by the Department for Environment and Water will be required to have an original photo identification document sighted and provide a valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) issued within the last 12 months.

Remuneration: GSE6 ($45.18 min - $45.71 max) per hour including 25% casual loading in lieu of annual leave and sick leave
