Job description:

The Electrical Safety & Technical Services Supervisor is a hands-on technical leadership position responsible for providing leadership, governance, and technical oversight of electrical safety, compliance, maintenance, capital projects, continuous improvement initiatives, and apprentice development across the business.

The role ensures that all electrical work is planned, executed, supervised, tested, and documented in accordance with relevant legislation, Australian Standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.

The position may also serve as the organisation's nominated electrical supervisor, Qualified Technical Person (QTP), Qualified Supervisor, or equivalent regulatory nominee depending on the state or territory of operation.

In addition to electrical compliance responsibilities, the role will manage technical improvement projects, lead operational excellence initiatives, and coordinate the development and supervision of electrical and mechanical apprentices to build future workforce capability.

1.0 Electrical Safety Leadership & Compliance

- Provide leadership and oversight of electrical safety across all business operations.
- Ensure electrical work is undertaken by appropriately licensed, trained, and competent personnel.
- Supervise, coordinate, or verify the supervision of electrical work performed by employees and contractors.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, standards, codes of practice, and licensing requirements.
- Promote a proactive safety culture focused on hazard identification, risk reduction, and continuous improvement.
- Lead electrical risk assessments and critical control verification activities.
- Develop, review, and maintain electrical safe work procedures and standards.
- Manage electrical isolation and lockout/tagout programs.
- Participate in incident investigations and corrective action implementation.
- Support regulatory inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.
- Maintain required records relating to electrical work, testing, commissioning, inspections, and certifications.

State-Based Electrical Regulatory Responsibilities

Where nominated by the company, the position will fulfil the duties of the relevant electrical supervisory nominee required under applicable state legislation, including but not limited to:

Queensland

- Act as the Qualified Technical Person (QTP) for the Electrical Contractor Licence where nominated.




- Provide technical supervision and oversight of electrical work to ensure compliance with Electrical Safety legislation.

New South Wales

- Act as the Qualified Supervisor where nominated under the business contractor licence requirements.
- Ensure electrical work is supervised and performed in accordance with NSW licensing obligations.

Victoria

- Act as the Technical Nominee or Licensed Electrical Worker responsible for contractor compliance where applicable.
- Ensure compliance with Victorian electrical safety and registration requirements.

Other Jurisdictions

- Provide equivalent electrical supervision and compliance leadership consistent with applicable legislation and regulator requirements.

2.0 Asset Reliability & Technical Support

- Provide technical expertise for electrical, automation, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Support the reliability and performance of manufacturing and production assets.
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis activities.
- Develop preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
- Drive improvements in equipment reliability and asset lifecycle management.
- Support maintenance planning and shutdown activities.
- Review and approve electrical designs, modifications, and technical specifications where appropriate.

3.0 Technical Project Management

Lead and manage technical projects from concept through implementation, including:

- Capital investment projects.
- Equipment upgrades and replacements.
- Plant expansion and infrastructure improvements.
- Automation and control system projects.
- Energy efficiency initiatives.
- Safety improvement projects.
- Reliability improvement programs.

Responsibilities include:

- Scope development.
- Budget preparation and control.
- Scheduling and resource planning.
- Contractor management.
- Risk assessment.
- Stakeholder engagement.
- Commissioning and handover.
- Project performance reporting.

4.0 Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence

Drive continuous improvement initiatives that improve:

- Safety performance.
- Reliability and uptime.
- Equipment effectiveness.
- Energy usage.
- Maintenance efficiency.
- Product quality.
- Cost performance.




- Process capability.

Activities may include:

- Facilitating improvement workshops.
- Leading root cause analysis investigations.
- Identifying and implementing cost-saving opportunities.
- Supporting Manufacturing Excellence, Lean, TPM, Six Sigma, and CI programs.
- Tracking and reporting project benefits and savings.

5.0 Apprentice Program Coordination & Supervision

Serve as the site coordinator and supervisor for Electrical and Mechanical Apprentices.

Program Management

- Coordinate apprentice recruitment, onboarding, and development.
- Establish structured training and competency plans.
- Monitor apprentice progression and performance.
- Coordinate interaction with vocational training providers and educational institutions.
- Maintain apprentice training records and compliance documentation.

Coaching & Development

- Provide mentoring and technical coaching.
- Conduct performance reviews and development discussions.
- Foster protected work practices and professional growth.
- Support succession planning and workforce capability development.

Compliance

- Ensure apprentices work within training and licensing requirements.
- Maintain appropriate levels of supervision.
- Verify competency achievement and workplace exposure requirements.

Leadership Responsibilities

- Lead by example in safety, integrity, and professionalism.
- Develop positive working relationships across operations, maintenance, engineering, and HSE teams.
- Coach and mentor team members.
- Drive accountability and continuous improvement.
- Support change management initiatives.
- Promote a culture of innovation, learning, and teamwork.

Authorizations & powers:

- Technical representation and communictation with customers
- Initiation, implementation, and evaluation of continuous improvement measures
- Ordering Materials in consultation with the Maintenance Manager

Additional Requirements:

- Electrical Trade Qualification
- Current unrestricted Electrical License applicable to the state of the operation
- Demonstrated knowledge of Electrical Safety Legislation and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Min 5 years in post-trade industrial or commercial elextrical experience
- Experience supervising electrical work and contractors
- Experiences managing technical projects
- Exeprience leading safety compliance initiatives
- Experience in maintenance, reliability, or engineering environments
- Experience driving continiours improvement programs
