- Salary: Teaching salary based on years of experience plus Level 5 PPA as per the Queensland Anglican Schools Enterprise Agreement + 12.75% superannuation

About the Role:

Are you a relationship-driven teacher with a passion for student wellbeing and a talent for leading others? Join our Secondary School as a Head of Year, where you will take on an key middle leadership role overseeing the pastoral and academic care of a Senior Year cohort.

Working closely with the Head of Secondary, Dean of Students and the Teaching & Learning team, you will lead a team of Pastoral Care Group Teachers, champion student wellbeing and engagement, and build strong, positive relationships with students, staff and parents that help every young person in the year level to thrive.

This role includes a teaching allocation. Applications are particularly encouraged from teachers qualified in English/Literature or Science (especially Biology, Marine Science or Chemistry). We also welcome applications from passionate teachers of Commerce, Mathematics or Humanities, as we can shape the teaching allocation around the successful candidate’s strengths.

What You’ll Do:

- Student Wellbeing and Engagement: Build professional relationships with students to foster belonging, service and pride, and implement restorative practice principles in managing student matters.
- Academic Support: Partner with the Teaching & Learning team to develop systems that support students in meeting their academic potential and liaise with the Director of Studies on curriculum and assessment matters.
- Leadership of Pastoral Care Group Teachers: Lead, support and upskill teachers within the Year Level Pastoral Care Team in the delivery of the Pastoral and Academic Care program.
- Parent Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for parents on student-related matters, maintaining professional and proactive communication.
- Programs and Events:



Plan and coordinate induction, orientation and transition programs, year level functions, camps, assemblies and a culminating end-of-year event.
- Community Communication: Promote year level programs and student and staff achievements through regular updates to the school community, including the Year Level Bulletin.
- Administration: Maintain accurate student records, manage NCCD/AARA case management for the year level in conjunction with the Director of Student Learning, and oversee an annual year level budget.
- Co-Curricular Involvement: Contribute to the broader co-curricular life of the College and support Secondary and Whole School Assemblies.

What You Bring:

- Leadership Experience: Relevant experience in a leadership or management role, with the ability to support and upskill Pastoral Care Group Teachers.
- Student Wellbeing Focus: A genuine, holistic interest in student wellbeing and development, with an understanding of the developmental needs of students.
- Communication and Influence: Exceptional negotiation, persuasion, and interpersonal skills, with sound judgement on when to escalate or delegate.
- Organisation and Planning: Highly developed organisational and planning skills, with the ability to design and run induction, orientation, and transition programs.
- Collaboration: A collaborative approach, working closely with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Judgement and Initiative: Strong initiative, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with skilled application of restorative practice principles.
- Teaching Expertise: Demonstrated excellence in classroom teaching, ideally in English/Literature or Science (Biology, Marine Science or Chemistry). Experience in Commerce, Mathematics or Humanities will also be considered, along with flexibility to teach across learning areas.
- Relevant teaching qualifications and current registration with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT).
