About the Company
Our client is a well-established Australian engineering and manufacturing business that designs and delivers truck bodies, trailers, road transport equipment, platform container systems, vehicle fit-outs, fabricated components, and specialised storage and racking solutions. They manage projects end to end, from concept through to manufacture and delivery, working with local fabrication teams and offshore manufacturing partners.

The Opportunity
This is a hands-on design role for an experienced Design Draftsperson or Mechanical Designer who knows truck bodies and trailers inside out and is highly proficient in SolidWorks. You'll report to the Head of Engineering and work closely with engineering and the workshop to develop new products, improve existing designs, and keep drawings and documentation accurate and controlled. You'll see your designs go from concept to finished product on the road.

What You'll Be Doing
Design and product development

- Developing concepts and detailed designs for truck bodies, trailers, vehicle fit-outs, transport equipment, platform container systems, and fabricated assemblies
- Modifying and improving existing products based on customer and manufacturing feedback
- Supporting prototype builds and first-off reviews to make sure designs are production-ready

3D modelling and drafting (SolidWorks)

- Producing accurate 3D models, assemblies, and components
- Creating clear manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly drawings with correct tolerances and materials
- Updating drawings as products and manufacturing methods evolve

Drawing and document control

- Managing revisions, drawing registers, part numbers, and controlled issue of current drawings
- Maintaining accurate technical documentation for both local and offshore production

Manufacturing and quality support





- Providing workshop support to resolve design and drawing queries
- Assisting with inspections and quality investigations where required
- Working with offshore partners to resolve fabrication queries and improve build consistency

What You'll Bring

Essential

- Proven experience designing truck bodies and/or truck trailers; this is a must
- Extensive SolidWorks experience across 3D modelling, assemblies, and detailing; this is a must
- Experience as a Design Draftsperson, Mechanical Designer, CAD Designer, or similar
- Strong understanding of fabrication and manufacturing, including welding, fit-up, tolerancing, and practical buildability
- High attention to detail with strong revision control and documentation discipline
- Confident communication with workshop teams and offshore suppliers
- Willingness to travel internationally roughly once a quarter

Highly regarded

- Background in heavy or commercial vehicle manufacturing, or specialised vehicles
- Experience with structural steel, sheet metal, general fabrication, or racking and storage systems
- Prototype and new product development experience in a workshop-linked environment

Clean, accurate, controlled SolidWorks models and drawings that the workshop and suppliers can build from without guesswork, fewer production queries and less rework, and continuous improvements captured into future revisions.
