About ARDS

ARDS’ purpose is to increase Yolŋu control of all aspects of Yolŋu life, through equal and genuine access to information, resources and decision-making.

Led by the ARDS Board made up of Yolŋu leaders from each of the major Yolŋu communities, ARDS’ cross-cultural approach puts Yolŋu perspectives, skills and decision-making at the centre of our work. We do this through five areas of work:

- Yolŋu Region Language Centre

- Community Development

- Law and Justice

- Yolŋu Radio

- Cultural Competency Training

About the Role

The purpose of the Co-CEO role is to support the ARDS Board, CEO, Djägamirr (managers) and staff to implement the ARDS-ku buyu’ (ARDS way of working). The Co-CEO partners with the CEO to help ARDS function as a ‘both-ways’ organisation. Their responsibilities are to:

- Support and Guide the CEO as their Bämara'

- Give cultural advice and skilled support to ARDS staff for their work

- Represent ARDS to other people, organisations and government

- Help with recruiting senior staff for ARDS

- Mentor and support Yolŋu staff

- Help with welcoming and training new ARDS staff

- Help to make sure ARDS-ku buyu' is being followed in all areas of ARDS' work





About You

For this role ARDS is looking for someone who is recognised by Yolŋu communities as Ŋalapal and Elder. We are looking for someone who will be committed to the ARDS-ku buyu' and will mentor and train other ARDS staff members. The person will be chosen by the Board. The person should:

- Be able to work with in spoken and written English and Yolŋu Matha

- Be committed to ARDS-ku buyu'

- Be willing to train and mentor ARDS staff

- Be able to work using computer or willing to learn computer skills

- Be able to communicate well with ARDS Board, Djägamirr, staff and outside people and organisations

- Be able to come to ARDS office consistently and have robust ralpa (disciplined approach to work)

This role can be based in Darwin or Nhulunbuy.
