About the Opportunity

The Assistant Childcare Director supports the Childcare Director in leading the safe, compliant and effective operation of Council’s education and care service.

You will provide day-to-day operational leadership to Room Leaders and educators, support consistent practice across rooms, and help maintain high-quality education and care outcomes. The role also provides continuity for key childcare administration functions and may act as Nominated Supervisor and/or Responsible Person when delegated during the Director’s absence.

Key responsibilities include:

- Support service-wide compliance with the National Quality Framework, legislation, Council requirements and service policies and procedures
- Provide operational direction and practical support to Room Leaders and educators, including routines, active supervision, documentation and safe practice
- Support program implementation, observations, reflective practice,



inclusive practice and quality improvement activities
- Oversee medication, incident, injury, trauma and illness processes and ensure records and follow-up actions are completed accurately
- Undertake enrolment, attendance, Child Care Subsidy, fee, compliance-record and general centre administration when required
- Act as Nominated Supervisor and/or Responsible Person when delegated, ensuring staffing, ratios, supervision, regulatory obligations and handovers are maintained

The salary package offered for this permanent full-time role will be commensurate with the experience of the successful candidate.

About You

You are an experienced early childhood professional who can combine operational leadership, sound judgement and strong administration with a calm, collaborative approach. You communicate clearly, support consistent practice and are committed to child safety, inclusion, confidentiality and high-quality education and care.

To be considered, the selection criteria is:

Essential:

- A Diploma qualification in Early Childhood Education and Care, or higher, suitable for appointment as Assistant Director
- Demonstrated leadership or acting leadership experience in a centre-based early childhood setting
- Strong knowledge of the National Quality Framework and its application to day-to-day service operations
- Capability in active supervision, risk management, medication and incident processes, and supporting educators and Room Leaders
- Experience in childcare administration, including enrolments, records, Child Care Subsidy and fee administration, or the ability to acquire these skills quickly
- Current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People registration, driver licence and required first aid, CPR, asthma and anaphylaxis qualifications, or the ability to obtain and maintain them

Desirable:





- At least 5 years' experience on the floor as a Room Leader or similar senior role
- Experience supervising or coaching Room Leaders/educators in operational practice.
- Experience supporting Assessment and Rating preparation and/or quality improvement planning.
- Experience in OSHC and Vacation Care programs.

Additionally, you will demonstrate sound judgement when handling sensitive child issues, managing staff rosters, and ensuring compliance with all regulations.
