MATES in Mining, Energy, and Manufacturing are a national, evidence-based suicide prevention programs delivered by MATES Australia. Inspired by the successful MATES in Construction model, they empower workers in these industries to recognise, respond to, and support their peers in times of need - with the aim of creating mentally healthier workplaces and communities across Australia.

About the Role
Drawing on your understanding of the mining, energy, and/or manufacturing industries, as a Field Officer you will play a key role in raising awareness of suicide and empower workers to take action when a MATE is struggling by facilitating suicide prevention training, conducting regular site visits and other initiatives to foster a culture of help offering on site as part of a national effort to make workplaces and communities safer and more supportive. Your experience in the sectors are less important than your ability to relate and to be comfortable delivery training, speaking in groups and interacting with a wide range of people.

This role is based within the Brisbane region with extensive regional and interstate travel required.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Develop and nurture solid relationships with stakeholders at both new and existing sites to promote and embed the MATES program
- Plan, schedule, and deliver suicide prevention training programs on-site, including General Awareness Training and Connector Training, tailored to the needs of workers
- Build and support on-site volunteer networks, such as MATES Connectors and ASIST-trained workers, to foster a culture of peer support
- Provide direct support to workers in distress, guiding them toward appropriate services and resources
- Maintain accurate and timely records and data from site visits and training sessions for reporting and program evaluation purposes




- Assist with brand-building activities and program delivery to expand MATES’ reach and impact
- Promote the MATES program across the mining, energy, and manufacturing industries through proactive engagement with stakeholders

Skills and Experience Required

- A strong background in and the ability to engage effectively with the mining, energy, and/or manufacturing sectors, including key stakeholders such as employers, unions, and workers
- Public speaking confidence - it is essential that you are comfortable delivering training and engaging presentations to large groups as this is a core aspect of this role
- Genuine passion and commitment to raising awareness about suicide prevention and mental health
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise with diverse stakeholders to foster meaningful connections
- Adaptability and resilience: a flexible, positive approach to managing changing priorities and dynamic work environments
- Proven ability to schedule, plan, and manage time effectively, working independently with minimal supervision
- Open to extensive regional and interstate travel as required by the role

- Salary approx $9oK to $92K plus superannuation of 15%
- NFP salary sacrificing of up to $15,890 of your income (please refer to the Community Business Bureau website to calculate your savings)
- 5 weeks of annual leave, plus a monthly RDO
- Work vehicle and laptop will be provided
- Study and support allowance of up to $2,500 per annum to further your education and skills
