Build equipment that works where failure isn't an option
Thrust Maritime designs and manufactures launch and recovery systems, subsea handling equipment and bespoke engineered solutions for the offshore, marine, resources and defence industries.
We work with major oil and gas operators, vessel owners, subsea contractors and defence organisations around the world.
Our equipment is manufactured at our Dandenong South facility and is regularly built to Lloyd's Register, DNV and ABS certification requirements.
We are looking for an experienced Boilermaker / Fabricator who takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work and wants more variety in their work.
The role
You will work as part of a small, capable manufacturing team building one-off and custom engineered equipment
Fabricating structural steel, machinery frames, lifting equipment and subsea handling systems.
Working with carbon steel, high-strength quenched and tempered steel, stainless steel and aluminium
Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, weld symbols and fabrication documentation
Setting out, fitting, assembling and welding complex fabrications
MIG/MAG, FCAW and other welding processes relevant to the work
Completing full-penetration and multi-pass welds in various positions
Controlling weld sequence, heat input and distortion
Working to approved welding procedures and project-specific quality requirements
Maintaining material identification and traceability throughout fabrication
Participating in dimensional inspections, NDT, class-surveyor inspections and equipment testing




Assisting with mechanical assembly and occasional site or commissioning activities where required
Identifying drawing, material or fabrication issues before they affect quality or delivery
This is not repetitive production-line work.
Projects vary in size and complexity, and you will be expected to think through the job, ask questions and contribute practical fabrication knowledge.
About you
You will ideally have:
A recognised Australian trade qualification in Engineering – Fabrication Trade or an equivalent qualification
Experience in medium-to-heavy fabrication
Strong skills in structural fabrication, fitting and welding
The ability to accurately interpret engineering drawings and weld symbols
Experience working to welding procedures and documented quality requirements
A sound understanding of fabrication tolerances, weld preparation and distortion control
The ability to work independently while contributing to a team
A practical, problem-solving approach
A strong commitment to safety, quality and housekeeping
Pride in producing work that is accurate and properly finished
Experience with any of the following would be highly regarded:
Class-certified marine, offshore or defence projects
FCAW, GMAW/MAG or GTAW/TIG welding
Welder qualifications to ISO,



AS/NZS or class requirements
Mechanical fitting, hydraulics or equipment assembly
Site installation or commissioning workWorking within ISO **** or ISO **** quality systems
You do not need experience in every area listed above.
We are more interested in sound trade skills, the right attitude and a genuine willingness to learn.

What good looks like at Thrust Maritime
We are looking for someone who checks the drawing, understands the weld requirements, prepares the joint correctly and speaks up when something does not look right.
Strong welding ability is essential, but accuracy, traceability, procedure compliance and attention to detail are equally key because the equipment must perform correctly when it is in operation.
