This is a hybrid role that splits time between physically executing targeted weed eradication programs and managing dedicated GIS mapping and spatial data projects. The position combines rugged, remote outdoor field deployments with technical geospatial database management, digital map creation, and spatial analysis. Because projects span the state, this role requires a willingness to travel extensively, including multi-day and long-distance deployments to remote and isolated locations.
Key responsibilities
GIS & Spatial Data Management
Spatial mapping tasks, including maintaining geospatial databases, cleaning field data, and processing GPS data
Building interactive web maps, custom field survey applications, and spatial dashboards to track environmental assets and treatment areas
Performing spatial analysis and rendering detailed treatment maps for client reporting and environmental compliance
Collecting accurate, real-time spatial data in the field using GIS software and mobile data loggers
Field Operations (Pest & Weed Control)
Executing targeted chemical weed control using 4WD spray rigs, hose reels, and specialized application equipment across challenging terrains
Identifying target invasive species and assessing environmental conditions to ensure secure, effective chemical application
Maintaining spraying equipment, pumps, vehicles, and safety gear to a high operational standard while on the road
Adhering strictly to all workplace health, safety, and environmental protocols during isolated field operations
About you
Practical experience or formal training using GIS mapping tools, managing spatial data, and building custom data collection workflows
Current driver's license and highly capable of operating 4WD vehicles
Flexibility to travel for extended periods to remote locations
Current Chemical Accreditation (ChemCert) and solid plant/weed identification skills are highly preferred
Comfortable working outdoors in varying and sometimes harsh Australian conditions
Capable of sustaining high-mileage field operations
Proactive attitude and ability to work effectively both independently and alongside the existing field team
