Coburg Structural Steel is a medium sized company and is looking for a competent and experienced Boilermaker in Structural Steel Fabrication. The successful applicant should be willing to work both in the workshop and on-site, depending on operational requirements.

About the role:

Key responsibilities: Workshop:
n
n
Read shop drawings
n
Oxy/Sawcutting
n
Drilling holes using magnetic drill
n
Lay out components to prepare for welding using mig/arc welder
n
Operate an overhead crane
n
Working as a team is essential
n
Work unsupervised
n
n
Key Responsibilities: On-site (when required):
n
n
Install and erect structural steel including columns, beams, lintels, portal frames, stairs, platforms, bracing, ties & purlins to project specifications. Lead small crews onsite while remaining hands-on with fabrication and welding tasks.
n
Accurately read and interpret structural, shop and technical drawings to plan and execute installations
n
Perform on-site welding, bolting, grinding, fit-up work, and steel assembly safely and with precision
n
Assist with crane lifts, dogging, rigging operations, and other complex site tasks
n
Carry out welding modifications, troubleshooting, site measure and boilermaker works efficiently on site
n
Safely operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment and site machinery,



maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols
n
Work confidently at heights using EWPs, scaffolding, or harness systems
n
Coordinate closely with fabrication and production teams to ensure timely delivery and smooth installation of steel components
n
Maintain high standards of workmanship, safety, and site housekeeping
n
Hold a current White Card and consistently follow all site safety procedures
n
Provide constructive feedback to continuously improve installation processes and site efficiency
n
Provide regular feedback to management on installation progress, site issues and outcomes
n
n
Qualifications required:
n
n
Certificate Ill in Engineering-Fabrication Trade
n
Drivers License
n
n
Experience:
n
n
Min.5yrs experience in fabricating of Structural Steel (as well as some experience working on-site)
n
Extensive knowledge in reading shop drawings
n
n
Skills:
n
n
Organised and able to meet deadlines
n
Communicate effectively with fellow workers to ensure project is completed within the time-frame required
n
Use initiative when working unsupervised
n
n

Salary: Above award rate (based on experience), good facilities and good working workplace. Overtime is available when required. Early clock-off on Fridays.
