Contract:6-12 months initially, with strong potential for extension

About the Role
We are seeking an experiencedSenior Power BI Specialistto join a major Queensland Government environment supporting complex digital, data and transformation initiatives.
This is more than a standard Power BI Developer role.
We are looking for a senior-levelPower BI SMEwho can work across the full Power BI lifecycle - from understanding business and stakeholder requirements through to data modelling, solution design, development, performance optimisation, governance and continuous improvement.
You will work closely with senior stakeholders, data analysts, architects and engineers to transform complex data into meaningfulenterprise reporting, executive dashboards, program insights and actionable information.
What You'll Be Doing
Lead the design and development of complex Power BI reporting and analytics solutions.
Engage with senior stakeholders to understand business questions, decisions and desired outcomes.
Challenge and refine reporting requirements and recommend effective analytical and visualisation approaches.
Design and develop sophisticated semantic models, data models and enterprise reporting solutions.
Develop star schemas and dimensional data models.
Create advanced DAX measures and calculations.
Use Power Query / M to transform and prepare data.
Work with SQL and complex data sources and integrations.




Develop enterprise dashboards and reporting for executives, programs and project teams.
Optimise Power BI solutions for performance, scalability and usability.
Implement Row-Level Security (RLS) and appropriate security controls.Contribute to Power BI governance, workspace management and tenant considerations.
Ensure data quality, validation and reporting accuracy.
Collaborate with data architects and engineers on broader data and analytics solutions.
Act as a Power BI SME, providing technical advice across projects and teams.
Provide guidance and mentoring to Power BI developers and analysts where required.

Power Query / M

Semantic models and enterprise data modelling
Star schemas / dimensional modelling
Dataflows
Enterprise dashboard development
Executive and program reporting
Power BI performance optimisation
Row-Level Security (RLS)
Power BI governance
Workspace and tenant considerations
Data quality and validation
Complex data integration
Stakeholder requirements and technical solution design
Desirable - Microsoft Data & Analytics




Experience across the broader Microsoft data and analytics ecosystem will be highly regarded, including:
Microsoft Fabric
Semantic models
Dataflows
Power BI governance
Tenant security
Data governance
Power Automate, particularly for reporting and data workflow automation
Fabric and Power Automate are not mandatory, but experience in these areas would strengthen your application.
